I have some leakage (is that a word?) at the shaft on the rear leveling valve. Rebuild or replace? MCI only sells the silicone based fluid that is in the valve only in 5 gal. buckets, At 1/2 ounce per valve, That should do about 1280 valves. |

Replace it. Most leveling valves arent' that expensive. Don't know which bus your talking about...my MC9 leveling valves are in the $60. each range. Hardly worth fooling with. From the description in the manual, they are a right good bit of exacting work to rebuild. They are easy to replace...just break off all the original nuts and bolts... I am in the process of replacing the rear airbags on my MC9...had to break off both axle leveling link bolts. No problem since they are nuts and bolts. Bags came right out. Three of them did. Had three good bags and one trashed bag. The one bag was the problem. Now if I can get my young'n to polish the Alcoa drive wheels while they are off the coach! Cheers , JR |

If you want the fluid, you can get it from Mohawk in small quantities. Rebuilding leveling valves can be a pita unless you have the time to spend and need to save a little money.Frequently the old valves can have a lot of rust and corrosion, especially in the Northeast. New replacements are reasonably priced and less troublesome. You can verify this by checking with local transit companies.Mohawk sells rebuild kits also if you would rather rebuild. Some of us would rather rebuild almost everything, gaining knowledge how everything operates, while others wouldn,t. |

Both very good points! Theres the easy way, an the I want to learn how this works way! Choose which ever way fits your style/budget! I myself am the one who'd like to rebuild it, atleast once to see whats up with it and is it worth rebuilding or just replace it for future reference! Either way have a good day! |

Leveling valves are usually repaired by replacing the Schrader valve (similar to a tire valve stem). If your valve is leaking around the shaft, that sounds like a worn housing and is not the normal place for a leak. |
