I'm considering taking a road trip to look at a bus that has a salvage title. Would I be able to get insurance on a bus with a salvage title? Brian Elfert |

I believe that it depends upon your state's Division of Motorvehicle laws & codes. Here is a coach that had some unusual title work done. http://www.heartlandbus.com/VehicleDetail.cfm?StockNo=500 I'd check with Heartland or a coach consigner to see what type of info they can provide. Eric |

In Virginia, you can have salvage removed from the title after you repair the vehicle. (I done it with a Harley) You will have to have the bus inspected by a DMV inspector. It's an easy process as long as you play by the DMV rules and you are SURE you can repair the bus. Dale |

Brian the ultimate answer is yes! Now the best advice I can give you is to call who you have insurance with now and check with them and get there ideas and aproximate price range! Now I can assure you any insurance company is going to want to know why it was salveged! They are issued salvage title after an insurance company decides it is cheaper to pay-off the owner instead of fixing a unit for what ever reason such as but not limited to floods, wrecked, burnt, storms, physical defects, poor craftsmanship, stolen recovery, and many other possabiltys. After showing why it was "totaled" they will probably want evidence that it has been reconstructed or repaired which ever the case is. Lastly it maybe very hard to get anything but liability coverage, I'm sure somewhere for a large amount of $ some company will but check it out before you buy! I saw a very nice enertainer on EBAY thats been burnt, but I'd rather stay away from the hassles that you definetly will encounter, but depending on the price and all could be worthit to you! I've had easy no hassle deals on stolen recoverys and almost wanna kill somebody on wrecked cars and big truck deals so do the homework before you buy! The road trip to inspect could be fun whether you buy or not just be sure to take a note pad and make as many detailed notes on it about everything! Not just the damage! Also take a camara and take lots of pics. The notes and pics will help later! 1st in deciding if you really want it and also in showing the shape before repairs! Good Luck and enjoy! Busted Knuckle |

Yes Brian as Dale points out some states will issue a "clean" or "rebuilt" title, be sure and check with your state! Bryce aka Busted Knuckle |

Most states require that a "licenced" rebuilder do the work or you cannot obain a "rebuilt" title which is needed to put plates on it. |

There are currently 2 salvage-title cars parked in my driveway (my bought from a junkyard Gremlin & my wife's theft-recovery Grand National)--it takes some legwork, but insurance isn't a major problem. A cooperative agent (mine is a serious car guy) is a huge help. |
