You need a manual!
I have a DDECII troubleshooting manual in the flea market area. I looked and most of the pin-outs are shown along with how to test each circuit.

Tyler, the manual you need is called “Application and Installation Manual”. This manual is written for the OEM who is installing a DDEC engine in a truck/bus they are manufacturing.

My manual is for a DDEC III, and I don’t recall seeing one for a DDEC II. They appear on Ebay every once in a while.

This manual will identify the wires you will need for the cable. Even that is not straight forward. With DDEC, the OEM has a choice of using several options for the both the input and output functions. For the DDEC III/IV there is a 12 input cavity (terminal) capability and 6 output cavity capability with at least three times those numbers of functions that can be assigned to each cavity. Having said that, they standardize most of the cavity/function relationships.

In lieu of finding an Application manual, you could look for a DDEC III/IV trouble shooting manual or CD on Ebay. There is a paper version on now, and I just bought a CD version for $14.99. I have the DDEC III paper version and it does not contain nearly as much of the wiring information that the III/IV contains.

The major problem with all of the above is that it is for DDEC III/IV. Much of the information is the same, but the ECM wiring plugs are different for DDEC II as I recall. I worked with a fellow who made the switch from a DDEC II ECM to DDEC III (and later DDEC IV) and he had to get a wiring adapter kit for the II to III switch.

A few more random thoughts:

- You will also need to get the wiring diagram for the power connection which is not part of the harness.
- In the harness you will find that one of the sets of wires is a twisted pair (maybe two pair, I forget). You can make the twisted pair by hooking a drill motor to one end of a pair of wires and then slowly twist the wire (a two person job that is not a lot of fun, since the wire wants to ball up).
- You will need to set up the two warning lights (CEL and SEL) and the switches for the Jakes and cruise control if your engine has those options
- Obviously, you will need the electronic throttle control as well.
- If you have cruise control, you will need to hook wires from the loom to the brake pressure sensor to turn off the CC when you hit the brakes.

OK, If I have scared you enough, there are folks out there who make custom wire looms, I would also guess that you could buy a loom from Prevost or MCI for the DDEC II

Tyler, I wanted to add a bit to my previous post. First of all, I have a couple of pictures of my cables on my bus project page on my website starting at:

http://www.rvsafetysystems.com/busproject4.htm

I just updated my site to include the descriptions of the wire and socket locations for my harness (along with some other details). These are for the Deutsch connectors (round). These are located on page 6 of the bus project pages. While they might not be exactly the same as yours, they are a starting place.

Hope that helps.

Tyler, I recommend that you locate a DDEC 2 troubleshooting manual. It's got the info you're looking for.Jim has posted some good info for you too. You'll need an electronic foot pedal assy, make sure it's for DDEC 2, the "counts" are different from DDEC 2 to DDEC 3/4.The power harness you will be able to fabricate yourself.
You'll need a CLSM (coolant level sensor module) and a CLS (coolant level sensor). You will have to install the CLS in your radiator surge tank.
Try to locate an old transit bus with DDEC 2 as a "donor" bus. Take the electronic foot pedal assy from it, power harness connector and CLSM.
I'd buy a new CLS.
Make sure you get a copy of the schematic diagrams for your coach, if you don't have them already. You'll need to use spare wires in the rear J-box for this conversion. Send e-mail if you need more technical help.Best of luck.
Sammy
