Based on a DDEC question down the page a bit, I decided to update my bus project pages and include Deutsche connector socket/wire information for the engine and transmission wiring harnesses and a parts list for converting a Series 60 to a shallow pan for a bus application. This information is on:

http://www.rvsafetysystems.com/busproject6.htm

Also, for those of you following the saga of the Shepherd bus, I took it for several loops around the sub division today (first time since repairing the rear end/drop box). All went well. Early next week, I will take it in for the emission test. Assuming it passes and makes it back up the very steep climb to our house, I will make a mad thrash to get it ready to go to California around the first of March (some vacation time and being a vendor at the big FMCA Convertion in Pomona)

Hi Gary. Yes, we copied CA and have diesel emission tests (all diesels – large and small). Trouble is, we forgot to follow CA and do away with the test (although they are talking about it). The test covers the “front range” counties around Denver.

The test for turbo charged engines is a 20% opacity test. They put the vehicle on a dyno and run it full tilt then go to two or three stages where they PULL the engine down with the dyno to 90/80/70 % of max rpm and record the opacity. The record snap emissions as well, but that is not part of passing the test.

I am reasonably sure that this test “cooked” my 6V92, as I had a head split shortly after the test.

I am very concerned about the test. With my big honkin 475 HP Series 60, I think they could do some “hurt” to the drive line components. I will really push them to let me be in the area and maybe in the bus when they do the test.

Besides the “fun” we get to pay $110 for the test (each year).

Jim
