We're almost ready to hit the road (with many thanks to you guys). I need a good "bus" route to Palm Springs along I-5 The 1st route I've found is on google. I-210 then CA-57 to I-10. The 2nd is from freetrip.com. I-210 to RT-71 to RT60 to I-215 to R-60 to I-10. The 3rd route is from my gps. CA-14 to I-210 to CA-134 to CA-57 to I-10. The last one we used in October when we drove down by car. I'm sure hoping there is a more direct "bus" route as it wasn't a very "bus" friendly route. I'd appreciate any help from those that have travelled that way. (keeping in mind that as the navigator, if we take the wrong turn its all my fault!!!) Thanks once again, Patti |

Patti; Take the I-5 south to the I-210 east and stay on it all the way to the I-15, Take the I-15 south to the I-10 east than out to palm springs. I go that way from Bakersfield around five times a year. hope this helps Don |

Don't go on the 210 during during rush hour. I go from Bakersfield on hy 58 east to Cramer juction at hy 395. Go south to I 15 then to the I 215. Turn off on state route 30 to highland. This will dump you off on I 10 in Redlands. Very little trafic on this route. It bypasses most of the traffic but there is a couple of lights on the 395 streach. |

I agree with Don Fairchild. I lived in Pasadena (5 blocks off I-210) for 35 years and travelled it for thousands of trips. East bound from I-5 is generally a piece of cake. If you can avoid the PM quitting time traffic from 3-6 would be adviseable, but again it is very wide, lots of lanes and very good route.By far the easiest route to keep from getting lost. Richard |

Patti - Do you and Ron know Bart & Linda Verruyt (sp?) They have a 4104 and also live on the island. . . Anyway, they were visiting Ed Carroll in Livingston a few weeks ago, then were headed to Quartzite, IIRC. Had a nice visit with them while getting the late Kenny Cole's bus ready for a trip to TX. Back to the subject. . . If you want to detour a little and take Hiway 99 SB thru Central CA, you're welcome to overnite out front. Only have a 15A plug in the garage for hookups, but that's better than Wal Mart! And the neighbors don't mind an occasional busnut friend stopping by. Fresno to Palm Springs is about a six hour drive, depending on traffic. Leave here between 8 & 9 am, and it will put you into PS before the afternoon commute mess in LA. Gabby's route has a little more two-lane, but it does a better job of skirting the LA basin, and less traffic. If you're interested, drop me a note privately by clicking on my name above, and I'll give you the info you'll need for your GPS unit. RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

Patti; That's a nice offer from R.J. and if that does not work for you, There is A K.O.A at hwy 99 & leardo Hwy on the south west side of 99 & leardo hwy, and an over nite park at hwy 58 and weedpatch Hwy just west of bruces truck stop on hwy 58. If you need phone #'s let me know. If you stay on the I-5 there are fuel stops at Hwy-46 and I-5. If you go hwy-99 there is a flying J south of fresno at merced ave. If you decide to go hwy 58 to hwy 395 to I-15 make sure your jakes work if you have one and your brakes are adjusted real good. You will pick up speed going down the cajon pass, not that you won't going down the grape vine eather. I go that way when I go over to barstow and on to San Bernardino to pick up or deliver engines. Hpoe this helps. Don |

Heck yeah, that's a good offer. All I ever got from RJ was a Pepsi and a kick in the back side as I left town! At the very least, RJ knows where the best price in diesel is. Definitely think about taking the 99 south of Sacramento. It runs parallel to the 5 between Sacramento and the Grapevine. There are a lot more places so stop for services on the 99. Some of the stretches on the 5 are quite long between services. How's it going RJ? It's been way too long buddy. Daris |

Patti, I don't know if you know it, but the fuel price at Hearndon, right near RJ's was low enough when we made our November trip that we fueled southbound, made our way down to the Yuma area and a few other places, and refueled northbound at the same place. If you are full when you leave Canada, you ought to be ready for fuel when you get there. If you're not full when you leave Canada, the Fife, WA Flying J should be one of the best prices you'll find up in that area. Highway 99 has some rough stretches, but we've almost always taken it if we don't need to go through LA. We take CA58 over the Tehatchapi, but the grades down to the I10 from I15-I215 will get your attention. You lose a lot of elevation in a hurry. If you like getting off of the Interstate and the weather in the border area between OR and CA is good, US 97 gives a really nice run down central OR into Weed, CA, where it rejoins I5. To get on it, you go southeasterly out of Eugene, OR on OR 58. If you haven't already found out about it, the very last southbound reststop in OR on I5 has a pushbutton operated speaker setup that will give you conditions in the Siskiyous. If they're bad, you can wait it out there or go into Ashland. We've spent the night in front of RJ's; it seemed to be a good spot. Good luck on your trip. Daris - Hey, you and your bride-to-be (at the time) were in so much of a hurry to get hitched you didn't stick around long enough to overnite! Of course, the neighbor's probably would have complained about the rockin' 4106 parked out front! LOL Tom - Thought you'd like to know I trimmed that tree out by the curb. . . or, more accurately, the city's new garbage trucks trimmed it for me! Y'all's welcome to stop by again. . . Yeah, RJ, I seem to remember there was a tree that was trying to rest in our awning, now that you remind me. We welcome your offer. I'll try to remember to call ahead! Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 Suncatcher Ketchikan, Alaska |
