We are prepping our bus for painting. Two of the seams on the exterior of the roof have a caulking of some kind on it. I've been advised that you can't paint over it. I probably should remove it anyway, but what should I replace it with? Is there a caulking product that will stick well to aluminum that I can paint over? I'd appreciate any advice. |

Go to a roof supply co and ask for a tripolymer. Silicone cant be painted over, Tripolymers can. |

If it can't be painted, it's probably silicone. You'll need to remove it and sand the aluminum well to remove any traces. In the interest of full disclosure, I work for Sika so I'll recommend Sikaflex 221 polyurethane. Let it dry for a day or so then paint it. As with anything, cleaning out the old stuff is most important. |
