The air gauge just stopped working on my 4905. I drove it two days ago and it worked fine. I went out to start it today and it dosen't even come off of zero. The compressor seems to be working. The lines coming out of it are warm. Any suggestions? Does this bus have another air gauge somewhere else? I just looked out at the bus and it's up off the ground, aired up. Seems kinda wierd to me!

Hello Kevin,

Along with the suspension rising, the real test is: Do the brakes work?

My first guess is the same as RJ and Pete, the gauge is stuck/frozen, following that, if there is no air for the brakes, your air dryer may be frozen in the purge configuration. This will block the air pressure from reaching the tanks.

The condition of the heating element on the air dryer is an oft overlooked item for busnuts, especially those who didn't plan on being caught in the cold. Also, depending on the methods employed in stripping out the unwanted coach systems, the busnut unwittingly compromises the wiring to the heater.

Let us know how you make out!

happy coaching!

Hey guys! Yup you were right. It didn't get over freezing today. The first thing I checked was the brakes, so I knew it was airing up. We hopped in and drove across town and it jumped right up. One thing I wondered, will the low air warning buzzer work if the gauge dosen't provided there is a low air situation? Also should I drain the water off of the air tanks? If so how?

Kevin 1st off yes drain the water out of the tanks!!! They should have a drain "valve" in each tank, some have a valve you turn to drain, some have a valve you pull to drain they usually have a ring on them and sometimes even a cable hooked to the ring running out and fastening to the bus near the outside edge making the job easier by just pulling the cable (these cables are widely used in trucking and rare in bus'n). Now about that low air buzzer it should come on any time you start the bus and stay on until it reaches what ever pressure it is designed for. Another way to make sure it's working is to pump yer brake pedal til the air gets low enough to "set" the emergency brake if the buzzer doesn't come on before the brakes "set" check it out and repair it immeadiatly!
