I think I posted this safety-related recall previously, but since I had my unit checked today at Vehicle Systems (Aqua-Hot and associated products), I thought I should mention it again. I also have a little more information about the recall. The recall involves the Webasto part of the Aqua-Hot system and the recall involves Webasto burners used in many products other than the Aqua-Hot type system. The details are detailed at: http://www.fmca.com/fmcmag/index/columns/recallcorner/2005/august.asp The Aqua-Hot product affected were manufactured from 12/1/02 to 4/1/05. I am not sure what the involved period was for Webasto units not used by Vehicle Systems. The problem is that the various companies involved are only notifying the manufactures of RVs and not the folks who bought the product to install in their own vehicle. Thus, we bus converters would have no way of knowing that we had a possible safety issue. When I went in today, the folks at Vehicle Systems were very open about the problem. It turns out that Webasto made a thin walled version of the combustion chamber (the tube structure that the flame burns in). Apparently the thin wall chamber can burn through and may even result in the possibility of a fire. My unit was a part of the recall, but had the thicker chamber. Never-the-less, they replaced the chamber anyway.
