Uh.. I see what appears to be a wierdified bread truck..

Is that what you are calling a bus conversion?

Maybe I am not seeing what you are talking about.

Looks nice but really plain..:-)

LOL now thats funny,, no it is tilted as a bus and was built as a bus. what it was used for is a good question it olny has 18,000 on it and seams to run good i had a line machinc look at it to conferm the milage and he said eveything looked original from the factory. and ok it not a big dog bus but haveing fun building it. usaly i would never look at someting like this but the price was right.

Hey, Sometimes the ultimately wierd stuff works for me. I would probably have gone the same way.

The magic part was "price" Says it all...

Orphans are only a problem when you can't find or make the parts to keep them going. A good imagination, some creativity and being good with tools is always handy.

So far you look pretty handy...

motorcoach you ask if anyone knows of a good diesel to replace the engine in it, but you don't say what it is! Or what it has now. I'm sure we can come up with suggestions, but more info please

thank you for listening ,Ive been looking to see if anyone knew any thing about these buses for a while, it's an 89 EMC made by Eldorado's but they say they never seen one or one that looked like it- closest I've come is a Calumet , theres one in town that the hospital uses, after looking at it it's only the front shell thats the same. It has a ford 460 that runs and has developed a bad valve sticking < that can be fixed. it is way over powered , when you step in the gas you have to be careful it takes off like a rocket. The chassis is a John deer leightend to 30 ft over all it's 35 feet. i need an instrument panel gages and looking this week on purchasing a set. What i do need is a ford truck wiring color code or just a diagram , I'm sure the wire color codes are the same except for add on stuff in the past i could just about wire anything and feel safe in it's operation. lets put it this way i didn't burn anything up lol. the other thing was adding a tag axle for the highway ride to smooth it out a little. thanks for the input everything is welcome. By the way i sold the MC7, a good friend bought it so i get to help him fix it up. and will be looking for a new bus in the future

Ok well now I know a little more, I have to say I've never seen one before, but that's not a bad thing. There are really several engines that come to mind for it 1st is a 7.3l navistar(ford & International have used the heck out of them easy to get from a wrecked superduty ford or U-haul or simular IH) but my personal preferance would be the CUmmins out of a wrecked Dodge P/U (now before the rants start I'm a FORD man and yes the powerstroke is awsome, but they are more expensive and complicated) hard to beat that Dodge Cummins thoses engines are like the energizer bunny! Now also of note there quite a few transits out there cheap that you could get(as long as it's T-Drive) and steal the 50series and trans w/accessaries and electronics! Like I said many options but the easiest would be to get a wrecked low milage superduty and steal the engine, Trans, and radiator from it! FWIW

PS I see a bug alright but it's not on the windshield!!!!!LOL

Uhm I'm not sure on the duralast part but Dodge has been using that cummins (300?) since the late '80's awsome reliability! The Duralast maybe the name for the newer latemodel electronic controled style now that I think about it and yes they to are awsome. However I was sorta refering toi the earlier models where you don't have to get and wire up the computer stuff (makes it a simpler swap, same with the navistar 7.3 verses the powerstroke) FWIW

Man dat bug gotta big thick head! LOL

motorcoach1, I've heard of a Duramax; it's GM, IIRC.

For what it's worth.

You probably could use a 5.9 cummins from an old school bus (with the AT545 tranny ).

Keep in mind that if you stuff a diesel in there the noise is going to be a big issue. Ford 460's are everywhere. The RV/Ambulance version is high output. A C6 or E40D ford transmission might work also. But since we didn't discuss transmissions I don't know what you have now. It may be just fine.

it has a 460 running just a sticky valve i start it every 2 weeks and drive it some just need to get into it and do some service work. just looking to see what my options are if i change it out. gasssss hog LOL i chatted with a friend in Fla and he said to change the cam and the crank to 5 degree as to 12 degree factory detuned for emission standards Will get better mileage. sense it has low mileage i might do that

Lucas Oil Additive for the sticky valve. Probably just a clogged lifter. A good flush and new oil might help that.

The 460 is a gas hog, However it is a monster on power. Had one in my 87 ford ambulance/van and although thirsty it had power to spare.

As for mileage. Hmm... If you figure most bus conversions rate out from 4.5 to 8 mpg the 460 should still be in that range.

The other catch for you may be the front engine setup. Hard to get to the engine area to swap out engines unless you go from below or start removing windshields and rigging up boom cranes to hand the engine through the front.

Or consider that a diesel is much heavier than the 460 engine and will not give you the same horsepower and torque combination. You also may need to change the rear-end gear ratio if you go to diesel as they run slower than gas engines as a rule.

Old, Thing.. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Installing a good exhaust system and better carb on that 460 will help save gas.

the engine slides out on rails! Cool how much easier could it get to cahnge the cam? And whiles ya was at it you could even change the intake. How about a big tunnel ram with a set of double pumpers?
