Ok now. Seems to me like the whole dang thing is hot!

Do they mean the end with the waterworks?

I give up. Just what is the hot side of the engine?

On buses with a side mounted radiator and V8 engine the two middle cylinders on the side opposite the fan are most likely to suffer heat damage.
