I am in the beginning planning stage of my house battery setup. I have read that using a battery isolator is not the preferred method to charge house batteries. If this is true what is the preferred method. Thanks, Jack H8H649-053 Burien, WA |

Jack, A solenoid is the prefered method because it has negligible voltage drop. If you are going to remove the coach AC you'll have all the parts and most of the wiring to do it with one of the solenoids that used to power the big blowers. Since you've got a 24 volt bus it's best to use a 24 volt house battery. Email me off board and I'll explain fully. Regards Jerry 4107 1120 |

R. C. The reason I offered the private tutorial is many of the details are GM buffalo specific. Jack has a late 40 foot buffalo that has a factory installed automatic transmission. Yes the principle is the same on 12 volt. My bus is 12 volt. The basic idea is use the controls & wiring GM used to prevent the blowers from running if the alternator isn't charging to connect the house battery to the coach when the alternator is charging. I've added a refinement that also connects the house to the coach when their is 120 available either from shore or generator. Regards Jerry 4107 1120 |
