I'm finally getting the aluminum interior panels reinstalled in my MC-8. I haven't done anything with the fresh air intake (under the first side window) yet, but I'll be replacing that panel tomorrow. What do you guys do with those vents? I've thought about sealing it off (inside the stainless 'plenum' in the wall)or putting in some sort of register with a damper to close it off. It would be useful to allow fresh air in when the roof vents are open. Any ideas, suggestions, etc are appreciated.

Along with the "fresh air", will be fresh bugs, roaches, wasps,
soot, dirt, parking lot dust, and whatever else is in the air..

I didn't remove that panel, and now you've given me reason to
think about it. Maybe I can reach inside the inside opening (once
the duct is removed), and stick (literally) a piece of aluminum
over it, to seal it... Those new adhesives are great stuff.

I don't know if that answered your question, but it sure
answered mine!

I am at the same stage with my bus and had the same question. I was planning on blocking off the hole.

Hello David,

If you are not running any of the coach HVAC, cover them up. They won't do anything of substance for you.

If you are keeping some of the coach HVAC functional, do not underestimate the value of being able to change the air in the coach many times an hour as you travel down the highway.

Many of us are developing greater alergic sensitivities as we grow older, and the stale humid air inside our coaches is a breeding ground for many things.

happy coaching!

Well, I am keeping the bus air. The dampers that open via the pull handles in the first bay are stuck and I haven't been able to get them working. That's the reason I'd thought to keep them with some sort of vent with damper on the inside to allow some fresh air in. That humid air is one thing that I don't want!

The drum corps I drive for runs three unconverted 9's. When you have nearly 50 kids literally living on the bus for a few weeks it can get pretty funky so fresh air is a major plus.

The guys who put on the "colorforms" with our logo covered those intakes. We opened them up and it's had a big effect on air quality. The AC's motors are happier, too.
