Hi, I have a 1955 4104, in the process of converting. Had a couple of questions. 1: The charge indicator gauge appears to function, in that it starts out on the right scale at no charge, when engine is started it swings left, through the charging indication in the middle, to full left on scale, again indicating not charging. However, a volt meter has been added at some time, and it goes from 12v not running to 14v at just above idle, making me think I have good voltage output, just being fooled by the factory gauge. I am hesitant to hit the road till I know the battery will stay up... 2:How difficult and expensive to convert to power steering? I am not afraid to attack the conversion myself if parts are available. Thanks, Jack |

Has it been changed from positive ground to neg ground..If so maybe they didn't reverse the wires on the charge indicator Tuck |

Yes, according to my voltmeter the output is positive, and the battery is wired neg to ground, however the system looks very old, and appears to have been in place many years. I wonder how long ago it may have been converted? I did go ahead and drive it a couple hundred miles, as long as it was just off idle the voltmeter showed around 14v, and the battery stayed up despite running blower fan and headlights most of the way. I am just struggling to understand the other gauge now, which shows a no charge condition at both extreme rigt and left of scale, with "charge" indicated in the middle. Thanks for the help, Jack |
