I'm having the same problem finding DELO 100 40WT, here in Southern Oregon. I've checked NAPA, Shuck's and AutoZone chain stores. Plenty of DELO 400 around. The bigger truck stops seem to be the best bet.

Hi:
Here's a listing of DD 2 cycle acceptable oils I copied from the RTS Forum:
It might help having more than one choice of oil.

Texaco "Ursa" Extra Duty
Shell "Rotella"T
Sunoco "DDC"
Delo "100"
Union 76 "Unitec HD"
Castrol "Assuron"
Citgo "Citi Guard Transit (Low ash)
All are available in 30 and 40 weight

Look for a lubrication distributor in your yellow pages. You will almost certainly have to buy by the case or more.

When I needed an uncommon oil in the past (Before Walmart cerried it), I bought a case from a local distributor.

A Farm and Fleet store might have 40 weight for tractors. Does Tractor Supply carry it?

Nelson Petroleum in Redmond has it in stock. It's about $6.50 a gallon.

I notice that no one mentioned Walmart for oil.Was a little hessitant at first but have used there 30 in the winter and 40 in the summer for several years now.Run original oil bath and do oil changes every second week costs about half of rotella t. I asked several people in the now before i changed . As long as its clean and slippry was the basic answer.

Dave,
I have never seen 30 or 40wt in Walmart that was covered by API rating CF-2.
I have seen Non detergent oil, and that's not what Detroits require.
Why ruin a good $5,000 - $25,000 engine by saving a few cents on a gallon of oil?
I don't use Rotella and I don't use Delo, but there are a lot of other brands out there that do conform to API CF-2.
For more information on the reason Detroit Diesel requires API CF-2 check out this link and scroll down to 7SE270.

There should be a ton in the Seattle area. Just head to where the local fishing fleets hand out. 80% or greater fishing/shrimp boats are DD powered.

Dave,

I've used WM CF-2 oil since I got the 4104 but all my local store carries is 30W and can't order 40W, would like to find some 40W. It is about half the price of the other sources.

Seattle Truck Repair, at the N. end of the 1st Avenue S. Bridge (almost under)carries approved 40wt. Also have a good DD mechanic who previously worked for Grey Line and speaks MCI and DD. Nice guys and straight shooters in my experience.

I was new to this just last year and realy had a hard time with this DD motor oil thing. I Read everything I could find and then found it tough to find what was the "acceptable" oil. This is what I came up with, from NAPA You can buy their branded oil made buy ashland its called all fleet 40wt. It onlt comes in 5 gal containers but has the lowest ash content oil I could find. You can not get it in a valvoline counterpart as you can the rest of their oils. Bear in mind I know that branded oils do not always have the same add packages as the Valvoline counterpart. The difference in this case is this oil seems to be made just for this application. I own a competition engine shop and have a pretty good working knowlede of oils. This by no means makes me an expert but I do know how to keep an engine alive or kill it, and this looks like a good product. I ran it in my coach to minnesota to see my folks 1900 miles @ 2000rpm used about 2 quarts round trip. That was all the info I have, let me know what you all think.
