I know the 4104 is supposed to have a rear center mud flap for cooling air purposes but mine has an identical flap in the front center also? What is the purpose of the front center flap, if any, and is it original equipment? Thanks |

My RTS has them behind the front and rear wheels across the width of the bus. The maintenance manual calls them "splash aprons" and doesn't say anything about them being for cooling purposes. --Geoff '82 RTS AZ |

That's on the RTS due to exposed plywood flooring on underside and to help keep road dirt from piling up on top of the fuel tank area. (it does anyway!) May also be there to inhibit junk from flying up into the fuel tank and causing punctures. I dunno.... Or More downforce to git that sucker down on the road at high speeds |

Doug, Thanks for your information. Since the generator is now in the pony motor location I assume the flap should stay there? |

I remember discussing the following with Bob Sheaves who was on the design team at GM when they installed the Cummins L-10 and M-11 engines, and the predecessor to the Autoshift, the CEE2MAT in the RTS. Some versions of the RTS had a lengthwise flap (i.e. parallel, along the side at the bottom) running under the radiator to prevent circular airflow of heated air. Didn't take much (only 4-5" vertically) but it was effective. [Can't get more "from the horse's mouth" than that!] Onward and Upward Marc Bourget |
