I searched and only found one thread about Kelly tires. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with these tires? I've decided to have all eight tires replaced on the Dina I am buying. The tire dealer down the road from the bus dealer does Kelly tires for $255 each mounted including FET. I am going to go with the Kelly tires unless I hear mostly negatives. Brian Elfert |

Hey Brian, What dealer you get your bus from? What you end up paying? what was the asking price? I had Kelly's on my Pickup once...they didn't last as long as some others.....but that is not to say the ones you are looking at won't. Different construction/different compounds. I have never seen any on a bus ever. have on a few semis but not many don't buy Toyo...they are cheap and last forever....but smell like shit when hot |

What model.......compare some specs. be sure to get ones with load cap naround what you expect your loaded weight will be. also be certain you get ones intended for highway. Certain tires are engineered for certain types of driving........ For instance there is a goodyear tire engineered for local delivery......wears all F'ed up under highway temps and loads |

They don't make a all position tire. if your Go K-S your gonna end up with some load bigg lugged drivers Obvviously they don't make coach tires. Just Truck tires |

Brian, I am guessing the "day" has something to do with that $255 price tag per tire. I just put two fronts on and moved the old ones to the tag axles and cost me $1,400.00 mounted, balanced, FET and Sales tax. I know you are on a budget, But putting cheap and possibly crappy/unproven rubber on your Dina is not the wisest choice. I live in limp-home mode so I have an excuse. It ain't a dump truck!!! |

I'll have to get the model number on Monday. I wanted to talk to the bus dealer first before I committed. They should be able to get tires on before I pick up Friday. I'm certain these are highway tires as the bus dealer buys all their tires there. The dealer is Easter Bus Sales. I am paying $36,500 for a Dina. I know of maybe six other Dinas for sale, but they are all $10,000 to $20,000 higher. This one is very clean and just a hint of rust underneath. Brian Elfert |

David, if the Kelly tires are junk, I won't use them. That is why I asked here. Yes, money is an issue, but $100 to $150 more per tire won't kill me. Anyone have recommendations for other tires that aren't $500 each? I can't see buying the tire with the longest lasting tread when they'll die of old age before the tread is worn. Brian Elfert |

just checked the K-S website...no all position tires, just steer and drives I prefer all position unless your going to be driving in heavy snow and unplowed roads alot. Really I have no difficulty here in PA will all position....and we get a fair ammount of snow. Easter has alot of stuff....never dealt with them on anything but have looked at some of their stuff. Typical big bus lot in my opinion. and likely very eager to move product. How many coach miles on your new toy? Engine miles? Trans Miles? Who owned it previously? |

You can say all you want about toyo tires, but I have had very, very good service from 2 I put on the front. And they were a lot cheaper than Michelins but not down near the 250 mark. As for the guy that said they stink, you must have run over some doo-doo prior to smelling them. That's a new one, are we supposed to smell of our tires everytime we stop? |

I have Sumitomo's. They were around $240 each mounted. They ride good and didn't break the bank. The tire dealer here sells lots of them for OTR trucks. |

Lew, every set I have been around stinks like black tank venting..... The set of 4 on my MC-8 Drivers' the SSet on the Charter Outfits bus down the road from me and the ones my mechnic had on his trucks when he had his trucking company. Yes my mechanic got great life and wear out of them too....a true Toyo Fan....but even he admits they smell like they are made out of 20% horse shit |

Kelly-Springfields are made by Goodyear, and I see them regularly on the front of OTR trucks. Personally, I'd go with Kellys or Hankooks (stay far away from Doublecoin!) on the front, amnd Bandags everywhere else. |

I have 78,000 on a full set (6) of Kelly all position tires. Quiet on the road and smooth riding. Still have lots of tread. I would buy another set in a heartbeat. Jim Stacy |

Brian I had Toyo on my BBird Wlodge and a full new set on my 4905 both 11 R 22.5. They rode and wore very good. Price for 6 mounted and balanced was I think $1120 mounted and balanced. I would buy again if needed. 4905 Larry |

I just picked up 2 Toyo steers for $588 out the door. Haven't had 'em long enough to comment on the wear, but the ride is great. Haven't noticed a bad smell though. |

I purchased my 4104 with Toyos already on it. Never had any problems. Never noticed any smell. I have seen several board discussions regarding Toyos before, and this is the first time I recall anyone referencing an odor. I am getting ready to replace them, simply based on age (8+ yrs) and Toyo is one of the replacement contenders. |

Sidewall reads: KELLY KLH1 ARMORSTEEL 12R22.5 Load range H S-D-T Regrooveable Friend of mine runs a large charter bus business. He ran these Kellys for years on his fleet. If I remember right I bought them through him, mounted on new Budd wheels for about $300 each. This was about 1998. I am going to replace them due to age. I hope I can get a similar deal. Jim Stacy |

What is the difference in a steer tire and an all position? I believe I acutally have steer tires on all 10 wheels. In automotive tires kellys and Multimile tires have outperformed Michelins for me for 15 years. Michelin truck tires seem to be better than their car tires. |

Brian, I mistakenly bought 8 new tires when I bought my coach. I then proceeded to convert it for 8 years, with only very minimal driving during that time! Supposedly, tires only have a 7 year useful life. However, the tire companies will tell you there are caveats to that guideline. I would NOT get new tires until I was going to be able to use it. That is why I am just going to regrove the existing moccasins on the drive/tag for $40 each. When the finished conversion and I are ready for some serious exploration , then we will have earned new tires (hopefully)! |

Part of the problem with the tires on my coach is a complete mismatch of tires on it. They are not all worn evenly on the same axle. I think the previous owner just threw whatever they had on there to avoid giving away a set of good tires. If they were all matched and just low on tread, regroving would be great. At least one tire also has sidewall cracking. Brian Elfert |

They used to grind off whatever threads were left on the tire, prior to cutting new grooves into it. It's got to be round! Drive to (or call) a re-groover and ask.. |
