If your converting them to convoluted/plated "no air box' type then all 4 at once as they must all perform the same way; if your just replacing on OEM bellows style, same with same , then there will be no variance in performance between the 4 towers and you can just replace the ruptured one and leave the other 3 till you break them over the next 1,000 miles as you know if one went the other three are not far behind! |

Towers? If you mean the air beams, I had been made aware of the following: === Since the reason for using the "sealed" type air bellows, is a leaking air beam, the two air bags using that same air beam should be replaced with the same type "sealed" bag. One side using the "sealed" type, while the other side remains using the air beam, can be typical of what's in service. === If I had to replace mine, I'd do the two on leaking beam side with the self supporting ones. If the other beam leaked, I'd do those bags the same as the fixed side. But to your question? Yeah, do the two on each side, the same. |

"Don't tell anyone but-$ My current MC 8 actualy came to me with only one bag converted too the newer conveluted style on the drive and three still on OEM bellows/air beam style. I must say that it was very wanky while busin it to home base on icy rutted roads in Wisconsin 2 winters back (it was very windy at the time too) the rest of the trick from NY to MB was acceptable. I should add that the "marginal" control arm bushing and "moccasins" tires on the drive were questionable and no doubt added to the unpredictable handling when the conditions got extremely demanding (I am sure this condition would of been exasperated with a heavy load).$ So mix-matching was done short term , but not "safely and a raodside DOT inspection would likely render the vehicle out of service and in need of a flatbed to the hospital". $I would not pass such a mix match on with my journeyman licence as I would not accept the strict liability or wish to jeperdize my licence to practice getting suspend,$ in spite of allowing myself into the desperate situation I did enter into on that one time, (and may I have learned). |

I have the same problem as Dave with my MCI 8. The air beam on the rear drivers side is leaking and I guess I have to use block off plates on the air bags. Can anyone fill me in on the type of bags to use to replace the stock bags? I had someone refer to "rolling lobe" airbags as the preferred replacement. Does anyone know the details of these bags and where they can be purchased (preferably in Canada)? |
