I need some advice on the best way to remove exterior paint off the coach body made of aluminum on my MC-8. I been told to have the bus soda blasted. This is a very expensive process. I was quoted $4000.00 which I consider to be highway robbery. Others have suggested using aircraft stripper. I am concerned that I might not be able to remove this chemical with a pressure washer from under the coach rivets and thus damage the future paint. Your suggestions will certainly be appreciated.

Hi Ron,
You could try this:

Get the sample kit for about $15. and try it in a few places. I got my sample but the weather hasn't been good enough to try it out yet.

Just wait a couple of months & rainstorms, and any old chemicals will be gone from under the rivets.

Visit FL in the summer if youre in a big hurry!!

Ron,
Just do it. I used "Dads" brand stripper found at Walmart (found it other places but was the cheapest at Walmart,$20.99 gal.) I used 3 Gallons. I did sections and pressure washed it off. Fast and easy. I did not spray it on I brushed it on. One direction and only one stroke in applying it. The roof was really quick. I suppose it was brittle because of years of sun exposure and only one coat of paint. The lower sides had multiple coats and took three applications. Still a lot easier and quicker than sanding. The water neutralizes it and the sun dried it out well. Went over the bare metal with Oshpho and wiped it down with a wet cloth then primed it. The treatment of Oshpho really made the primer stick well. I guess I double etched because I used Dupont Etch primer which just did Oshphos job again. I would do it again as I have done paint work before and it worked great. Try to do it in the shade or in a building. I did it outside and had to do it in the morning as it would get too hot in the afternoon and dry too quickly. Now I am trying to find a place inside to apply the 2K Urethane I bought for the topcoat. Hate to try to paint it outside but I may have to!
Andrew.
