Hello is DonTX or anyone else from south Texas around the McAllen area who can give a fellow bus nuty some suggestions on where to turn for some assitance? Steve posted last night needing help on the MAK board (the new 1) and as far as I know he still hasn't found anyone! Anyone with info can go directly to the MAK board and reply directly to him or give me a call and I'll pass on any info ya can give him! Thanks! Busted Knuckle! 731-885-7460 |

It's an interesting lesson lots of us should learn: BEFORE you ever take your bus on the road, besides bringing a spare set of belts along, every one of us should change them ALL out, or at least remove and replace every one of them once prior to the maiden voyage, just to see what we'll be getting into out there on the road. I do this with every one of my busses (I have/had 3 now), then I know exactly what I'll be up against, what tools I'll need, and exactly what to expect if one pops out on the road... and I make sure I have the tools to do it. As Steve is unfortunately finding out, just carrying a spare set of belts is definitely not good enough! I wish you the best Steve. If I were nearby I'd be there to help you... alas I'm in California... |

Well Gary I know what ya mean I have spare belts and some other parts and some tools on all our buses, and have made sure anyone who drives 'em can change a belt on the side of the road. But it seems as though Steve has a problem I've not encountered before! I'm wondering if his cradle is all the way forward or not! As that could be why theres next to no clearance for the belt between the pulley and the bumper! But I knew Don and some of the other good bus nuts where in that area, if I could just get them in touch with each other! I'm like you I'd be there to assist in a minute if I weren't over 1100 miles away! Knuckle |

Well I've found Don to be one of the nicest and knowledgable guys I've ever met. I'm sure Steve 'll be on the road soon! Hope se anyway... sitting on the side of the road is **not** fun.. !! Been there, but thankfully not for long! |

Well, I am going over there in the morning with a cutting torch and a BIG hammer. Something is gonna give for sure! (Probably just catch the bus on fire for him) |

Well after about three hours of cutting and prying and scratching our heads, we finally got all the bolts cut off, and the bumper and inner piece laying on the ground, finally room to put on the belts. Adding to the difficulty was a trailer hitch that was welded on AFTER the bumper and stuff was attached. We never did discover what created the lack of clearance, but Steve travels with a spare set of belts, but was useless without cutting the rear out of the bus to put them on. Anybody with an MCI 9 would be wise to check the clearance between the rear cross member (aluminum by the way) and the pulley on the "front" of the engine, and insure that there is clearance to wedge a belt in there. Anyhow, got him fixed up at last, except maybe he has the wrong belts. |

Oh I am SO GOOD at tearing things up with a "Hot Wrench". Caught the bus on fire too, but Steve was smart enough to be standing by with three fire extenguishers and a water hose! |
