Does anyone know if the Desulphating Pulse Chargers work?

I have one battery that has been neglected and would like to get it back to life.

Probably would then be used as the Coach Battery for lights and such.

I've had mixed results so far. I bought one about 2 weeks ago. It seems to have brought back one battery, but I'm still trying to nurse another back to health. I think it may be too far gone. Not sure if this is the BEST way to recover from near death, but mine was advertised with a smart "float" charge mode (i.e., like a trickle charge, but it adjusts so as to not overcharge, in theory), so I thought it would be a good way to keep them topped off.

Years ago a friend who worked at Roley battery and electric in south Fl. told me of a trick that they used to bring back tired batteries. Drop one asprin in each cell and let set overnight. Then put on high charge for as long as it takes to warm up the battery.{usually one hour} The asprin somehow cleans the plates and gets them going again. I've tried it on several batterys over the years and it seems to work with most.

Wonder if the size of the battery has anything to do with how many asprin a cell gets? I am attempting a resurrection as I write this, so far not much action . The batteries are 9HD. Fast charging for HOURS will get the bus started, but only with a prayer added.

Thanks for the comments, I did pick up a pulser, if nothing else it will float charge and maintain a good battery through the winter.

I have heard the aspirin trick before, and believe if it does work it may be because aspirin is a mild acid.

A really good place to look is

http://www.shaka.com/~kalepa/desulf.htm

These folks are building "homebrew" units that seem to work as well as the E$pensive commercial stuff.

The decision on batterys is the amount of boondockin.

For little boondockin, a quality set of 8D , replaced every 4 years works great , but is a bit limited to a night or two.

This is for a start / house system , with no dedicated house batts, propane fridge and no furnace use.

TV , radio ,lights, bit of Microwave , only.

For the real camper the question is cost vs hassle.

For low cost, cheap sams club batts , and a map locating every spot they can be returned for fresh units works too.

Big bucks means having an E-meter or Link 10 to really monitor the bank , and a desulphator , and really good method of recharge.

Big smart inverter or
DC alt and 3 way V regulator .

Only then is it worth spending the bucks for Surettes or Trojan L-16's or equal.
