Brian, have you made any progress on soundproofing your genset? I'm working on mine. Pulled it out today and plan to "bed" that puppy in Rubbatex 1" between the floor and rails that it sits on. Not going to mount in a rigid fashion, going to limit the amount of movement potential, but I don't think it will try to move. The bolts will be in place, but with space between the genset mounts and the bus. I also bought an Ebay exhaust isolator that was made for a Honda. Same size exhaust as mine. I've already broken one of the expensive Yamaha flex pipes. Moving the muffler underneath the bus. That will eliminate another noise maker from the compartment, and reduce heat load. Didn't have any problem with excessive heat though.
Looked into softe mounts, but most make the generator too high, and the soft ones introduce quite a lot of motion on their own. Since the generator is inside the AC condenser compartment on an MC9, space is a major consideration.
If you've done anything, I'd be interested in what worked for you. I'll let you know what happens...if it works...if not, I'll just keep quiet!
Cheers, JR

JR, Are you restricted in height only or footprint also?

You can provide for soft mounts in a variety of ways and accomodate the design to minimize motion [and therefore sound conduction] by proper design.

JR, how are you mounting the muffler under the bus? I can't figure out how to mount mine without it hanging down too low; there's not a lot of clearance under my MC-8. Thanks.

If you mount the muffler just behind the front tire or just in front of the rear tires, you will have less problem with ground clearance. Hope this helps, Jack

Marc, the foot print could be as much as 4" X 4" for the base (per mount)....regarding height and width restrictions, there's 4" vertically to play with for mounts. The engine must stay in the center of the box. Only an 1" between the gen drive and the wall. Had two inches, but lost one to rubetex soundproofing. Got it all covered, now to get the unit back in.
David, there's plenty room under an aired up coach if located immediately behind the front wheel. My muffler exits within 3" behind the front corner of the condenser compartment..right in the center.
Bought a little stainless flex hose for a Honda exhaust pipe. Broke an expensive Yamaha flex within 30 hours of use. Not sure why, and it didn't cause any problems. But, too much flex I reckon. The muffler was remote and used the same flex pipe so....shouldn't have broken. That's what happens when modifying things. I moved the muffler to above the engine, and probably had the "shake" going the wrong way.
Thanks Morgan, if I were to relocate the pipe it would be out the front...as it is, the side exit is what is happening now. The rear exit would invariably exhaust into the rear of someone's RV...'course the side will exhaust into their patio area??! Front would be the most desirable. I rarely have anyone near the front, but often have campers near the rear of the bus. I don't run the genset in campgrounds anyway. Keep in mind that my generator is right behind the front wheel...the exhaust would have to be over 30 feet long to get to the rear of the coach.
Marc, what would you propose for mounts that would be stable, but suitable for a high freq unit? I looked at some websites that make these things and have no idea what the best choice would be. The genset turns between 3200 and 3600 RPM..my Yamaha generator is powered by a small twin Kubota diesel. An engineer could sort this out...! Thanks in advance!
Best, JR
