I thought I would ask the members here if anyone has any recommendations for long term stay in the Houston area. My office there is downtown (unfortunately) and I would like to be between downtown and the Bush airport on the northern side. I expect I should consider a mobile home park for a stay of 2-3 years. Does anyone have any suggestions?

So let me get this straight - you're gonna put that $20,000 paint job in a mobile home park??? For multi-years? Heck you could have just slopped on some fence paint! :-) Are ya gonna drive it to the valley on weekends or leave it to rot? :-)

Ok, back to business. I was on I45 a few weeks ago and saw a number of places below The Woodlands and west of IAH. I had no idea IAH was called 'bush' now. Good grief.

There were a number of RV parks in that area as well as RV dealers. But I'm not too sure how acceptable they are. More east closer to 59 might be a better choice. I'm sure you know the traffic all around that area is a real b**ch.

Well, It has to sit somewhere while I earn a living and then it gets to roam the streets some weekends and whenever I can squeeze in a vacation. I know, what a shame to not just use it full time (working on that). I am looking at RV parks too but not having much luck with that either just yet.

I will have to check out the areas you mentioned

We lived in Houston for 15 years. I think you have to get out toward the Woodlands to find a decent RV park. Houston between downtown and Bush airport is scarytown in my book. I have a Workamper couple who just stayed at a park north of Houston, I'll ask them tomorrow where that was at. We lived at the West Houston KOA in our 40ft King of the Road 5'er after we sold our house waiting to move out here, it was a nice place for a long-term stay...they even have some long-term spots by their private lake, down side is that its in Brookshire about 30 miles from downtown. Your right, you might have better luck with a Mobile Home park. There is a KOA on Aldine Bender I think which is in your target area, but you will have to drive past a lot of grafitti'd buildings to get there.

That is what I get for loitering in Ohio. Some of that grafitti is actually very artistic and of more than one demension.

Greg,
Wow, I like how you did your bus. We have a 84 Eagle conversion that someone else converted. If I was doing a conversion, I would do one just like yours, I like the cabin feel to it. I guess if I got abitious I could replace the fuzzy concrete(read carpet) on the ceiling and walls with wood. I'll give you an update on parks once my Workampers come in this morning.

Greg,
My Workampers recommend Spring Oaks RV & Mobile Home Park that is off of I-45 and Spring Steubner. They said that its nice and big enough to get a bus in.

My Dad moved from Magnolia, TX a few years ago to SC. Recently he had to go back for employment purposes. He's staying in a fifth wheel in a place right off of 1488 just west of 45. That's a decent area. I can ask for the names and numbers and post it later if you'd like.

This is close to The Woodlands and I-45.
A Super Wal-Mart and Sams close by.
About 8 miles north of the entrance to the Hardy Toll Road Via I-45. http://www.campingfriend.com/woodlandlakesrvpark/default.asp?source=arvc

Check out Trader’s Village. If you're familiar with West Houston, it's at at the end of N. Eldridge near 290. The name will probably throw you, because it's actually a "high-end" flea market on the weekends, but it also has a long-term RV area that slows way down during the week. When I stayed there I sorta liked the weekend stuff... kept things interesting. It's super clean, manicured, private showers, laundry, miniature golf... the works. Not too convenient to downtown, but doable. Oh yeah, once you've stayed a month, you become a regular, and the price is ridiculously inexpensive.

Excellent! Thanks for all of the recommendations guys. I may just move around every couple of months and see what works. That is a nice fringe benefit with a bus!

If you're still watching this thread, this website was mentioned in the FMCA mag. It looks sorta lame but it claims to be the only place to search for campgrounds by highway, which might be of some value.
