Well guys the ol' 4905 is almost alive again! My mech. has had quite a time getting the engines swapped out. I'm sure some of you remember all my issues about a month or so ago. I found a used engine and trans that we picked up. My mech. set up the engine and ran it before we began pulling the old one. He said all looked well and he went ahead and tuned it up and all. Then he swapped over all the accessories and such. The engine and trans I bought had a fairly new clutch with it which I needed worse than I thought. That brings me to my problem. He installed the clutch by the book. The first time we depressed the clutch pedal it popped and the pedal went to the floor and the clutch actuator arm on the trans had about six or eight inches of free play. So they pulled the trans and re-assembled it again by the book. This time it seemed good, we tried it several times with no problems. We adjusted it up then fired up the bus at an attempt to put it in gear. Tried first gear and it ground a little then second and third, and then the pedal popped again and had the same issue at the trans. Have any of you had this issue or be able to give some input?

I would suspect a problem with the release shaft in the bell housing, such as at the outer end where the lever attaches. I'm not sure about the 4905, but the release shaft on the 4106 has a splined outer end and the lever is attached to the splines by a clamp. This may have slipped. You might also try to make sure the linkage at the bulkhead has not been damaged somehow during the swap.

When he pulled the trans out after the first "pop out", he did check and grease the rest of the linkage at and around the bulkhead.

Too much travel in the actuator arm. The arm is going too far and letting the throw-out bearing fingers pop out of place. Check the GM Manual on proper adjustment. If you have an air or hydraulic assist, they have to be checked also. Old 231 C.I.D. inline 6 cyl. Chevys with a column mounted 3 speed used to do the same ting.

Thanks all! John that's kinda what we were thinking. They put it back together late yesterday, and haven't hooked up any linkage yet. I guess we'll see what happens on Monday!
