I've removed most of the overhead chassis and I believe I can pull my engine with my engine cherry picker its rated at 4000 pounds, engine and trans weigh less than that, does anyone know what or where the lifting points are for a 8v71?

One at the front and 1ea on the rear of the heads. They are normally left in place. Are going to try to lift the engine and tranny out with an automotive rolling cherry picker? I wouldn't try it-- the hoist might be rated at 4,000 lbs. but your engine, much less the engine and transmission, are way too bulky for that little cherry picker. It scares me to even think about it!

If you want to pull the eng/tranny out, I would build a cradle to roll it out with, or use a big forklift.

Hi Pat... when I changed out the engine in my Prevost, I remove the bumper and stuff..unhooked the driveline at the back end of the trany.

I put a 2 ton Hyd automative shop jack under the trany (and chain it to the jack) and use a small forklift 2 or 3 ton to lift from the front of the engine. I jacked the engine up first so I could get the forks under the 2 front (farthest to the rear of the bus) motor mounts (the angle brackets that bolt the the frame) It came out as slick as Texas T.

I suppose that you can use the cherry pick but you are going to have one hell of a time getting 3500 pounds to roll and to control it. With that much weight and money involved I'd rent a small fork lift...people get killed trying to control that much weight with the wrong equipment.

The 8v92 has to be lowered about 2 inches If you have any questions on all the small details that have to be done to make this a painless exchange email me...and we can Skype.

I figured it would be tough to control and I actually new better, I just needed to hear it from some one else, at this age that tow motor sounds just about right! Ron I'll be sending you some questions as I go along this week thanks!
