I got a phone call wed. while on another call selling my trailer, I seen the number come up on my phone answered it and it was someone wanting to book me for a gig. I asked her name (pam) and told her I'd call her back at that number in 5 minutes. after finishing the financial transaction I tried calling her back by retrieving the number from my phone but it would not display. I believe the area code was 928, which covers a large portion of Arizona, which also includes Quartzsite. My question is when is the rally there and does any body know a pam involved in that rally? just a wild goose chase but worth the chance. |

Good morning, Cap't. I would think the gal will call you back, but to answer your question the big events in Quartzsite happen in January, but there are several events during the winter. |

This late in the year it is starting to get very hot there so most of the activity is probably over for this year. Richard |

Don't forget with cell phones, the area code is meaningless these days. My cell is area code 785, I live in area code 956. Confuses the heck out of people. |

you can call your cell provider's customer care and have them go through your incoming calls with you. they record all calls remotely and can tell you. just ask them to look for any 928 #'s around the time you think it was. I've done it before and it was pretty painless. kyle |

First, on topic.. Cap't, I did a lot of Googling, but the limited information didn't come up with much useful. On to area codes. I have a whole variety of area codes. I use Vonage, so I have phone numbers in area codes that call me frequently. It's partially to make myself appear to be there, so I can provide locals with a local number and they don't have to question "Where's that?". I have a London number too, because I have a few people in England that call me. It saves a fortune in long distance bills. I tried to transfer my phone number from Nextel to my Vonage line. Nextel claimed to have released it, but never did. Now, if I call you from the Vonage line, it'll show my old cell number, and you'll have absolutely no problems talking to me. If you try to call me back on that number, it'll give you the Nextel message saying the number is disconnected. The number is in the wrong state, which makes things really interesting. I have phone numbers you can dial to in Tampa, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Vancouver, London, and a few others that aren't as interesting. I can call you back from either Florida or California, depending on which phone I dial on. For the first few years of living in California, I kept my Nextel service, with a Florida area code. People knew the number, and they wouldn't put a second line from a different region on that phone. They'll do the same region, just not a different one. When Sprint took over Nextel's billing, they started jacking me on the rates, so they lost a long time customer with several phones. I know a guy who has his own T1 just for phone service at his office. I don't know all the details, but I do know that he can provide any number he'd like in the callerid number. His always end in -0000 , so when I see his area code and a -0000, I know it's him at work. For most people, it's a decent guess to see what the area code is, but it's far from a guarantee that the callerid information is right. |

Problem solved. Verizon called her back and she called me last night. 920 not 928, makes more sense it was green bay. but I learned a valuable lesson. take down info from caller , don't rely on technoligy. |

Cap't, I'm glad you got a hold of her. So, did you get the gig? |
