Greetings busnut bretheren! It might come as no surprise to some of you that we’ve upgraded our bus once again. We bought a newer ’78 GMC 4108 Buffalo conversion. Here’s the specs and a few pics I stole from the site where I found it: http://www.brownland.org/bus/4108/ We bought it just up the road in Loveland, CO, so it was nice not to have to go on another road-trip to procure a bus.

She’s a bit newer and nicer than our old bus, “Blue Velvet”. She’s got practically a new rebuilt engine, Jakes, inverter setup… Most importantly it has an Allison automatic in it so my wife can drive it. Also, we got “Blue Velvet” in a few places… on the ski slopes, at the beach, and campsites… where the grade wasn’t favorable for the clutch or required a lot backing up. The auto is just so much easier to drive through town and maneuvering in tight spots.

We just broke in the new (as of yet, un-named) bus, driving her from Colorado to Amarillo, then on down to Galveston for a Spring Break trip. Almost 3,000 miles. Zero problems (although the tranny temp. did get pretty high on the way home). Here’s the requisite slideshow from our trip:

Long version: http://www.brownland.org/travel/texas06/1.htm
Shorter, more bus-centric version: http://www.brownland.org/travel/texas06short/1.htm

Anyways, to avoid being a zero-woman man, I’ll need to not be a two-bus man for too much longer… so I’m getting the old girl ready to sell. If I@n gets the Classifieds up and running soon (no pressure), I’ll list her here.

We’re going down to the Springs tomorrow in the new Buff for a three-day getaway. Then, to the Bay Area next month, Iowa in June, the Black Hills in July.

It’s bussin’ time again!

I confer ,sort of makes that nifty towel dispenser in the bay a bit of a space waister. Unless that is a courtesy towel rack for the guy next to you at the fuel pumps, oiling up his Jimmie. Nice conversion! Happy Busin!

Looks pretty good..I'd put some kind of metal and fire proof barrier between the generator and fuel tank.

Great bus, Brian.

But every time you purchase a new coach, I feel like I went on a great vacation with some fantastic folks.

Hiya Brian and family,

Congratulations on your newly acquired coach. That was a fine article on your spring break trip. For me, photos add a lot to any article, and the text gave a brief story about each photo.

It's great to see your kiddos involved in your coach travels. They are building memories now that they will remember when they're older.

Best wishes for your upcoming trips over the next, few months. I'm envious.

Brian, that was an excellent presentation. May I ask what software you used to compile it? Please.

Thanks for the kind words, all.

DML, the Web software I use is Namo Web Editor 2006. It ain't Dreamweaver, but it's nice for $80 or so. I played around with the CSS settings and left some messy code behind. I'm not much of an HTML editor, but only learn enough to get the look I want.

The photos are all done up in Photoshop with a sheet film template I found someplace. There's easier photo editors out there, though, like Adobe's Photoshop Elements. I use PS (and most every other Adobe app) every day, and can blaze through stuff like this, but it takes awhile to get good with it.

Feel free to borrow the code off my page if you want to incorporate it into your own slideshow. The code's not all mine anyway, but bits and pieces I borrow here and there.

If you tweak the CSS settings, you can have whatever colors you like. "View Page Source" in your browser and just cut and paste it into your editor and play with it.

OR for brain-dead simple HTML slideshows, just download the wonderful (and FREE) Picasa2 from Google. http://picasa.google.com/ No editing required, and they have some pretty nice templates.

HTH,
Brian

Very nice bus and trip. How was the driving for your wife? How do you feel when she is behind the wheel? We have two baseball stadiums a short train ride away.
