When starting off after my MC-8 has been parked with the brakes on for any length of time, it feels like, although they have released, they are dragging. If starting on an incline, the bus labours and doesn't upshift until the crest of the incline has been passed. Once it's gone a about 500 yards on level ground it seems to be okay, it upshifts and the brakes seem to work fine from then on. I do wait until air pressure has buitlt up to at least 100 lbs and apply a full brake application first before starting off.

Last service it had, about 350 miles ago, was a replacement of one DD3 chamber (both have been changed in the last two years), a brake adjustment and replacement of a quick release valve that is located in the spare tire compartment. All this work was done by a licenced heavy equipment mechanic who has extensive experience with MCIs.

Before I take it back to him, is there anything I should be looking for or might anticipate?

Hi Dave & Folks:

You did not mention what coach you own, so advise may vary from coach to coach.

But in General, when I have to move a DD-3 equipped coach at my business, this is what I do.

Build the coach air pressure up to 120lbs.

Push down the Brake Release Button.

Push the Brake Pedal to the Floor and Hold it There for a few Seconds.
Then put the Trans. in gear and move it.

Now, at times, with different coaches, it may take a second full depression of the foot brake, for the brakes to release.

In order to determine if this is your problem, try to park your coach on a slight decline, face down. Leave it parked there and then repeat what you have been doing and see if the brakes drag.

If you have been making the Full Brake Depression, then it might take a second one. If the brakes do not release, then you may have a mechanical issue brewing.

Just my take on your situation and I Hope it HELPS!!!!

Happy & SAFE! Bussin' to ALL this weekend and ALways.

Thanx, Luke.....great information; that's one for the archives for sure! While I have not had an exact situation, something similar and with my amidships Cummins.....I did ( pretty much) what you suggested, and ....it worked? :-)

Thanx for sharing.

Thanks.

I'll try that.
