I am getting ready to install my seward hot water heater. It has an engine heat exchanger and I was wondering how some of you installed the unit and Tied the heat exchanger to the engine.
Any help would be much appreciated

They are more usefull , and less risk to operate from a water cooled noisemaker.

Mine was tied into both systems and it worked great. Always had plenty of hot water. I really do not understand what risk there would be tied into either system unless worried about a coolant leak. New hoses and double clamps should be used anywhere in the coolant system in my opinion.

Richard?
Where and how did you tie it into both systems?
Did you tie into the water supply line going to the heater or run lines from the genset as well as the engine compartment? thanks for your help

Richard piggybacked his generator to his bus radiator. That's what he means by both systems.

I have a Seaward and tied mine through my Webasto loop. The 2 way 45000 btu heat exchanger is what is tied to the engine system. It scavenges heat off the engine and distributes it through the Webasto furnace loop and the Seaward.

Now if you are installing the Seaward sans the Webasto, I assume you can tie your Seaward into an engine loop. On my 6v92 I could do it two ways. One, just series it through the driver's heater loop. My eagle has a natural flow of coolant through this loop continously and would make a nice heat source for the Seaward.

Two, you can tap off a 3/4" pipe hole somewhere in the engine block and loop around to the suction side of the water pump. This is the way I installed my Webasto heat exchanger.

Either should work.
