My husband and I are interested in finding out the history of a bus we're in the process of aquiring. It's a 1951 GMC PD 4103 #125. Does anyone know who it was delivered to originally to, and what it's route was? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mr. Vickers - thank you! It's back in North Carolina and our first bus 'project.' We're looking forward to it.

Actually, does anyone have any photos of what the old Carolina Coach Company Trailways buses looked like? Paint schemes? Colors? Links to any websites? Thanks!

Hillsborough - midway between Raleigh/Durham and Greensboro/Winston area... Any suggestions for beginners (!) welcome. We're both car nuts and have worked on those for years, but this is seriously taking it up a notch!

Just for another shameless plug for the East Coast Get together,
Why don't you make plans to stop down at Timmonsville, SC May 18th-21st.
I also have a 4103 and have lots of historical information on them, along with service manual, master parts manuals etc.
Also, a fellow bus nut is going to be here with his 4104, but has a 4103 parts bus. I've been thinking about buying it for parts for mine.
You can find more information at:

Good luck with the new baby!

Tell the group that you have a ex Carolina Coach PD4103 and I am quite sure some one will have photos of Carolina 4103's

Wow - ya'll are great with all of the help and suggestions - thanks! I can see that having a bus means joining a new family.

Two things have me perplexed, though - finding front passenger side windshield replacement glass (ours is cracked), and can you get the "scroll" things that used to have the destinations on them on the fronts that were backlit? Ours has the glass, but someone painted over it years ago... I can strip that I think, but would like something behind it other than bulbs! :-)

I think the Scroll sign is still installed in mine, I'm not sure. It's been a couple of years since I looked, but I know the machinery is stil there. Material was just made of canvas, and I have the wiring diagrams for the lighting.
Windshields are about $750 for each side on our '03's. Too bad they aren't the newer '04 style, those are much cheaper!

Good deal - I'm guessing if I order a manual (!) that the wiring diagrams will be in there? The machinery is still in there, along with scraps of canvas, but that's it. Source for windshields? I know I saw the $750 figure, somewhere... Ughhh... Thanks!

Come on down and scan the manuals to your hearts content. I have enough CDR's and DVDR's that we can get all of the books on there.
Besides, the Copied version I got from a well known source, had the pictures so black I couldn't see them.

I'll tell my husband we HAVE to go on down to SC! :-) If so, I'll let you know - thanks! We've got a lot to learn.
