Sticks & staples help.
.
.
.
Off topic, not for sale, post what ever.

Ok guys help.
I have had my sticks & staples unit up for sale for some time now.
I had a lot of lookers but no buyers?
Tonight I got a fish on the hook that is really interested in purchasing this production unit.
I’m trying to think of all the positives, but after starting a conversion I can’t find any with any production unit?
He has been upgrading from motorhome to motorhome, and this is an upgrade for him.
I showed him the unit, told him the history, gave him the run down, He and his wife really liked it.
Then all the sudden they both asked me at the same time, ”Why are you building your own camper?”
Well I just stood there dumb founded, and my wife said because all campers are designed by men.
This guy’s wife totally agreed and the subject changed to how bad production units are laid out (wow that saved my a__).
At this point I can probably talk this guy in to starting a bus conversion, but I really want to sell this “unit”.
Now I really feel like a used car salesman?
I know that this unit is in sound mechanical shape, and everything works, but I just can’t see it being worth what NADA & Kelly say.
It’s losing about a grand a year and I really what to dump it.
By dumping it I will have to finish my conversion.
Right now it is just to easy to jump in the unit and go (rather than plywood tenting).
Sorry guys I just feel weird and don’t know what I’m asking of you all, I guess that I’m just venting.
I will post this both on BNO and Mak to see what you all think.

Tell the guy the truth and you will sleep better. You say it is a good unit. That is good. I had a lot of people say I was crazy. I guess that is why we are called bus nuts. I wish you luck in selling and luck with your bus.

Ed... You're only losing about a grand a year. Do you mean on depreciation? I'd like to own any unit that only depreciated a grand a year. Must be some good kind of a motorhome I have never, never heard of.

Tell him the truth, and -he- will sleep better. You will be awake
still trying to figure out how to get rid of the damned thing...

There's nothing wrong with a S&S. If you think there is (or I
think there is), it's only our own opinion. Everyone forms their
own opinions of things. Some are right, some are wrong, but
it's up to the individual to form their own. You do not have to
share yours. It's fine to keep your opinion to yourself!

(And I'll note.... That is exactly what a few members here,
tell me very often) (too often) (that is my opinion) (fwiw).

Sell it; wave bye-bye; be happy; take the wife out to dinner.

Hi Ed,

Just sell the great RV you have for sale for the excellent reasons you bought it in the first place and don't try to sell the lifestyle of a person who we all endearingly refer to as a "bus nut".

One he'll understand. The other, he won't.

On a personal ethics basis, you're walking a tightrope if you "open" a topic, and the man in response asks a question and you give an incorrect or incomplete answer.

If you explain the bus conversion as a matter of personal "self expression" and leave it at that, you'd be on good standing.

If the hopeful buyer ends up backing out, you could just not mention your conversion project to future lookers. That'd sidestep the whole issue.

All you have to do is say you are selling it because you don't like the floor plan/design and want to build one (as a hobby) the exact way you want it. If you want to talk bus conversions you should say building one is a lot of work and money, and most people are happy with a production unit.

DON'T SWEAT IT!

Everyone is looking for something in life, beit a sticks and staples, bus conversion, whatever.

Many people have absolutely NO USE for a bus conversion, NOR do they want to build one. They may have reasons like No TIme, No Money, No Patience, Not Interested, WHATEVER!!!

This may be this gentlemans time for a nice S&S and he will be happy as can be to buy it.

Everyone has their reasons to go one way or the other and when they cross that line, they never look back.

You see this on this board as well as the S&S boards. On the GMC MotorHome board, those guys are happy as can be and they rebuild them just as you do your bus. (true, a GMC is not a real S&S but close).

So be secure that YOU are not tying to convice him to buy the S&S, it will sell itself and he will dance to the bank to pay you.

Don't look at this in a direction that it is not going. If they saw the bus, of course there would be interest, and a question. But their eyes were on the S&S.

Good Sale.

Everybody is at a certain stage in their life. To some, a tent is the only way to go. Others like the pop-up because its small and affordable. Then there is the S&S stage. You and I are at the bus conversion our way era. And believe it or not, to some, our bus conversions are a step below their million dollar ride. One man's trash is anothers treasure. My opinion is, tell the truth and if some one buys it, it'll be because they want it. Good luck.

Oh this can't be that hard.

Just tell him you're crazy, considering what's involved...

Thousands of hours,
Running all over town and the internet looking for pieces and parts,
Learning all about electrical systems, plumbing systems, insulating, HVAC, construction, air suspension systems, air brake systems, diesel maintenance, scarcity of mechanics who will touch a bus, EXPEN$E, frustration, marriage instability, neighborhood friction, snooty neighbors in RV Parks, RV Park age restrictions, DMV challenges, insurance challenges, inability to saw a straight line with a skillsaw, did I mention TIME, ....

It wouldn't be hard to scare away ANY normal person from this crazy endeavor.
