Just wondering... Do any of you nuts (and I use the word in a kind way)out there have a Champion that you've converted or are in the process of? Or do you have any firsthand info about these bus's? I found one for sale, I think it's a 1982, 8v71 w/ a 6 speed manual tranny. Still a seated bus. Is there anything unique about this bus that would make it more difficult to convert than, say, an MC9? How much head-room is there? I am not going to do a roof raise. Are the bays as large as the 9? What are the general construction materials used on the skin and frame? Prone to rust? Thanks to all for your input. I will consider any and all of your words of wisdom and advice, even though you are all self proclaimed (bus)nuts! many thanks mark |

You might check the weight. IIRC, some of those were 35 feet and had three axles. On the other hand, that probably would mean that you wouldn't likely overload it. For what it's worth. Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 Suncatcher Ketchikan, Alaska |

seating capacity is 47 - Does that mean 35 foot or 40 foot? If I'm going to have a 35 footer, it will only have two axels! Thanks for the heads up, Tom. I was not aware of the 35foot bus's thanks Mark |

Hello Mark. That 6 speed will be a "W" shift pattern, not an "H", if that is of concern to you. Just takes getting used to going "next door" on one of the shifts, instead of "across the street" Someone else chime in here, IIRC, I think it's between 3 and 4, can't remember if it's at the top or bottom the unconventional move is made. Those who have 'em don't mind, once they get the hang of it, and 6 gears gives you that much more flexibility. happy coaching! buswarrior |
