When cleaning the under floor area I found the steel over the fiberglass rear wheel wells rusted away.

This will not be a problem if my tires don't blow or come apart.

It Looks like it could be repaired from under the bus later when the tire blows or comes apart.

Would like to get the floor in so I can go back to the caps & sides

Would be grateful for advice on repair of wheel wells.

I would do it while you have the floor out...it's way easier to do from the inside than trying to stand on your head welding from underside. With the floor out you also can weld all 4 sides of the tube.

It looks like it bolts in from the bottom on a MCI 102A3. The book dose not help much, gives some parts numbers but on picture match with. All the bolts remove from in wheel well. Don't think there would be any welding.

Go to a restraunt salvage yard and get stainless steel from old appliances ,it will never rust

Also important, take a close look at the fiberglass "cap" of the wheelwell (if it's like my MCI-9) Mine has a bevy of small holes that aren't easily visible. They leak, which leads to the rust.

I'm planning on fabricating SS replacements.

I purchased some 20ga 304 stainless 4x10 sheets for the floor area just above the rear wheels, that will be sheared and bent to form a tray to seal this area on my Prevost, this area along where the over the road a/c lines ran needed to be repaired. Paul if you have the floor out I would do it now, it will be much easier!

If you Rino line the Fiberglass it works well if not better ...pick up truck liner

If I were doing another conversion I would fabricate wheel wells out of 1/4 in. plate steel. After seeing how much damage is done to the inside of a conversion after a tire blows-make that explodes- I'd want that extra strength. Especially if I really loved my 'significant-other' and her co-pilot's seat was above the right front wheel! Cheers...JJ

While JJ's idea is a good one, if you're going to install some 1/4" plate, I'd consider upgrading the attach points as well, otherwise, the plate will simply replace the tire fragments on their journey through the passengers seat bottom!

When I get around to addressing this problem, I'll probably fwd the info to Gumpydog, (if he'll have it!)
