Black smoke out the exhaust usually indicates that too much fuel is getting in the cylinders for the ammount of air that is being fed to it - do you have a Turbo Charger in that rig? For the ol' DD MUI engines I usually have seen a flexible hose connecting the cool air intake to the engine to the output of the Turbo. I've seen a few of those lose a seal and make a good "ka-pow!" sound (this can even be stainless steel band clamp that just slipped off letting out approximately 8-35 PSI of air). Also when a Turbo isn't forcing air into the engine - the engine will, err... lose it's "balls". If you were mashing the accelerator to get over to the curb, you were probably drowning the engine in fuel (thus black smoke). Take a look at your rig, and post some more details about your rig, so that we can get a little further into the problem. Cheers! -Tim |

could be the blower drive also, or the emergency stop triggered somehow, that emergency stop trigered on me once and i thought i lost the engine, would not rev up at all and puffed blck smoke like crazy, sounded terrible, just check it. you have most likely got a air problem to the engine Frank Allen 4106 |

You"ve got your answer, too much fuel (possible), too little air (probably), Guess it's up to you to figure out which. AyJay 79 RTS |

I would say Frank hit the nail on the head. Check the emergency shut down. It may have accidently closed, or a blower shaft or couper for the blower has let loose. It is starving for air. My 2 cents Steve |

After closer examanation this morning pull back of blower plate` off to see shaft, found that the large gear wich drives the genarator had sheared off chewed up the generator gear, hopefully the carnage did not carry on down threw, will find out more tommorow. |
