When I bought my 4104 there was no speedo (no tach either), no speedo cable, nothing. The guy who converted this bus made some interesting choices.

"Someday" I'll get one of those way cool dash upgrades with the guages ready to go, but for now I plan to just use a handheld GPS duct-taped to the dashboard.

That's one possibility, GPS.

We use a GPS hooked to the computer on our 4103.
Mostly because I didn't want to replace 30' or so of cable and housing for the speedometer.
The GPS has so far been extremely accurate and it is dependant on tire size, spider gears or gearing.
Works for me!

Luke sells a really nice programable electric speedometer with a sender for the front wheel. Installation of it requires drilling and tapping for 4 bolts on the back of a brake drum and mounting the sender. I like it because it includes an odometer and trip odometer.

Some of the 04's had a cable speedo that ran off the front wheel....the one spindle had a hole in it the whole length and a shaft went through it and was turned by the dust cover. The other end connected to an adapter that the speedo cable hooked to. Maybe your coach has the hollow spindle also. ( left, I think). Oryou could have a new cable and core made up for yours, or a core if it is the only thing bad, by a speedometer repair station.Might be a pita to replace the whole cable assy. though. Electric setup would be the way to go nowadays, unless you are working on a shoestring.

go to your local heavy truck dealer and ask him for an Isspro, they are made in Portland Or. as to speedos i have never used one but they make othere excellent gauges and have a far better support group than S W do and their prices are fair.

I have a number of Monaco R/V:

4 1/2" Speedo Gauges - $29 each
+
other Misc gauges - $29 each
+
complete 10 gauge Monaco Dashes w/switches - $299
speed/tach/oil psi/trans temp/engine temp/dual air/12v/turbo boost/fuel

The speedo requires a minimum of 10,000 pulse/mile
(if you have multiple notches (greater than 20) on your front hub like many bus do - that's just fine) -

If you only have 2 or 4 bolt heads - then the you would need to add more ?? (don't know how praticle that is - even with my inexpensive speedo

If you have the electric speedo all you need is the transmitter I have one here but don't want to sell it. You may be able to find one out there they were a small three phase generator that attached to the outlet where the cable attached to the trans. I have two 3751 buses here with this system. Best of luck Tim

I had the speedometer replaced on my 4104 in May '02, by a shop called Powl's Speedometer Shop - Lancaster, PA. They installed an ISSPRO Part number R8480C-Set, which is a 3 3/8", 80 mph speedometer with odometer (no trip function). With it they installed a tach sender Part number R8970, which is a 7/8-18 generator.
If you aren't near Powl's, they could at least answer a question over the phone. 717-898-2552
