For any of those that want to help, send me a phone #. I pulled my 8-92 out, and now I'm just looking at it, because I don't know how to dissamble. It just doesn't look like those car engines I've worked on all my life. Now that the valve covers are off, I can see a rack, a bunch of fuel lines (I guess that's what they are) and then the jakes. I haven't a clue what to take off just to get to the head bolts. The reason I pulled the engine you ask ....It froze up on me. Right after it froze up on me (we were driving it at the time), my wife looks down on the road and says to me, " Should water be comming out of there". She was pointing to the puke tubes. |

Marc, Where are you located? You may want to just find another engine if you aren't familiar with the guts of a 92 series. You may also want to invest in a service manual, because you are going to need it before you get done. Dallas |

Dallas, I'm in Beaumont/Port Arthur. I didn't want to invest in a service manual if I'm going to end up throwing the 2 cycle out and repowering. Right now, I just want to get into it and see what went rong and see what its going to cost to repair. I see your phone # on your ID, would you mind if I call you today ??? |

If you O'Haul at a DD Dealer, IIRC, figures between $18-25K have been quoted, with a guarantee you'll never utilize as it's tailored for commercial, high mileage operations. You can get O'Haul Kits, as related by FF for about 1/4 to 1/3 that but then there's all the little doo-dads that add up. All the pieces for my 8V92 cost the DD 2-Stroke Dealer I bought my bus from about $7500.00. I got an assembly estimate, my shop, my forklift and playing "go-fer", from a recognized expert in the range of $3-4K for assembly and setup. Referencing Jim Shepherd's estimate of costs for a S-60/Autoshift repower (not counting time invested) of $25K+, It would take a long time to gain a positive ROI on a re-power, (but we ain't doing this for $$, are we????) |

take the oil pan off and check the main bearing if the mains have not spun in the caps and block its a fairly easy fix if they have spun buy you another engine its cheaper.Amercian truck parts had a 445hp sliver 892 on thier web but they are in Phoenix AZ.P.S. have a good set of 12 point sockets to work with. |

Marc M., It sounds a lot like you blew a head gasket. Definately if you are going to try and keep/fix the engine, you'll need the service manual (about $150 new from a DD service company - and worth every penny). Cheers! -Tim |

The Heads are Off!!! One gaulded piston / skevem but that's it. I'll be cleaning the heads today to check for cracks, but at this time, there's nothing obvious. I had always assumed that I cracked a head, because after the engine stopped running, I had my antifreee pouring out of the slobber tubes. Before pulling the engine, I did drop the pan and look for spun caps. Everything down there looks just fine. I let the engine sit with penetrating oil in the cylinders last night, and with the aid of my 2X4 and a sledge, I tried find some movement in the assembly. Nothing, its still dead. Thanks for the encouragement. |

Marc, As I asked you on the phone,... did you remove the mitrebox? did you pull the airbox covers? You can view the wristpins and the rings from there. the coolant running through could be anything from a compressor that's gone tit'sup or a broken head, or a water jacket broken by a wrist pin. while the oil pan is off, try removing the bolts from one rod at a time, pushing the rod up and then turning the crank.. since you have a repower, DO IT!
