My MC-8's not quite ready for prime time yet. I'm trying to decide where to mount a standard car CD player/ tuner. The unit is a regular DIN mount that's 7" x 2". If I angle it under the instrument cluster, it doesn't operate correctly. If I mount it horizontally to the right of the steering column, I can't see it. One place that looks like a possibility is in the dash slightly to the right of the door handle. If I mount it correctly, the arm that operates the door will just clear the bottom of the radio. Besides an overhead console, I can't see anywhere else decent to mount it. Where have those who've installed stereos mounted them? Thanks! |

Some folks mount a casework console that sticks a little proud of the front bulkhead. I've even seen cataytic heaters mounted there, that doen't seem to interfere too much with foot traffic. Just a thought, bb |

David,I mounted mine in the dash, as you can see from the photo here http://groups.msn.com/July2004Busphotos/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=195 I dont have the door closer mechanisim, so that may make a difference- I no longer use the am/fm CD since my in-motion satellite system lets me listen to XM radio while driving.....and through the home theater sound system.......it's sweet (Message edited by chuckMC8 on May 17, 2006) |

Mine is up high in a panel behind where the destination sign would have been. It is a Sony DIN unit that is very easy to get to while parked. Fortunately, Sony has a remote stalk control that allows full control of the unit from the driver's seat. It also controls a CD Changer mounted in a storage compartment in the dash near the front door. |

Hello David. Many of the commercial coaches of this vintage I have seen that retrofitted stereos mounted them in the front of the dash below the door handle. This exposed them to a certain amount of physical abuse in commercial service, it might be ok for a conversion. Unfortunately, these older coaches do not have much room for extras! Building an overhead enclosure above the windshield can be used for more than just the stereo: back-up screen, CB, more gauges, generator controls, etc. I know of one that turned out really nicely made out of metal, shaped to compliment the location, with a removable access plate on the bottom. happy coaching! buswarrior |
