It's not a campground, and I can't really speak for them, but in 2004 we were in the Chigaco vicinity for a couple of days and the Camping World (I think about 20 miles west of the city, but not sure of that) let us park for a couple of nights in their parking lot behind the store. And we "parked", not "camped". No lawn chairs, no awnings, etc.

That camping world is off of I55 in BoLINGBROOK.
You get off on 53 and Heading NORTH turn left (WEST) at the first stop light. You will seem to be in a Business park. Go about half a mile and watch like a hawk for a little sign on the right side of the road that says CAMPING WORLD with an arrow indicating to turn LEFT. follow that road to the Camping World Lot.

In Joliet off of I80 the Empress Kasino has a camping area.

Further West Off of I 80 is

MARTIN CAMPGROUND-JOLIET
725 CHERRY HILL RD
JOLIET, IL 60433
(815) 726-3173

Traveling WEST from Joliet watch for BRIGGS ST. There should be a tiny little sign on the right of I80 that says CAMPING. You will also see a sign up in the air that says CITGO. the building is the design of an AMOCO station that changed over.

drive WEST on the road in front of the CITGO station about half mile, will be just before the stop sign on the LEFT.

There is supposed to be another camp ground along 55 further WEST however I cant find it. I am thinking it is called Tri Cities Campground. Can be seen from 55.
