What oil would you use in a v-6-92TA?
Would it be the same as used in the 8-v-71?

Yes.

Straight 40wt, CF-2, 1% or less sulfated ash content - per DDA.

Search the archives for LOTS of info on this - it's been beaten to death many times!!

Here we go again,i just recently put a completly rebuilt drop in one of my 9s,a while back we discussed the oil issue many of you said the walmart 40 wt is no good,it got me thinking so before firing up the engine i called the man that has work for Detroit for many years since know retired who did the rebuild for me he told me that the oil i have been using for the past ten or so years is working just fine. Two of the 9s i have were high milers that i purchased from the hound, they were used to petrocan oil i switched to walmart oil and they still racked up hours and miles in sever service for a couple of years before i had to do engines.I know a couple other old timers with 871 in there Gravel trucks they swear by it so i guess if you want to pay for all shell and esso slick advertising go ahead i think it is pretty much the same stuff.

Thanks
The only reason I ask is because I don't know the differents of a v-71 or a v-92. So I was thinking maybe different oil.
Thanks anyway

The only time I was peed off at my Detroit was when I decided to put synthetic oil In my 8V71 I went from synthetic oil to 20w40 that didn't work either I used 2 gallon from Knox Indiana to Vermilion Ohio, went to shell rotella cf-2 40wt and went to Tennessee back to Knox Indiana back home and used 2 quarts but you can do what you want to Its your bus I was just telling you from experience.

The EPA mandates that all oil will be less than 1% ash for 2007 this is what the DD 2 strokes have used for years.you can read about it at on this web page.htt://www.freightlinertrucks.com EPA07.aspx.
