Good morning everyone. I have an all white bus, from what I gather it has some sort of truck bed liner type paint all over it........not sure, it was done buy the Lake Havasu City guy that had it and died and his wife sold it to the guy I got it from. He said he put industrial paint on the roof, anyway, on the 'ribs", i guess they are called down the side, lengthwise, i would like to see some aluminum if i can, and i dont know the first thing about paint rmoval off metal, some have told me sandblast and walnut chips instead of remover, anyway, could be a mess since i dont know what is under the paint and dont know what the paint is exactly, maybe it would be nasty lookin. i have read about, aluminum looking paint, think it was in the archives on here, that its hard to tell if it is or isnt paint or bare metal........anyone got suggestions on this at all? sellabus.com is the only pic on line currently, 1975 flx all white center second row. anyway, is it an "impossible' task, or is ther a good paint that could look just as good if not better than removing the old off the ribs? and is there a paint on paint /type of paint issue as far as what will go on top of another paint?

If the old paint is sticking well to the bus, I'd top it with another paint color.

If the texture bothers you, well, things aren't so simple.

Go to a GOOD industrial or automotive paint supply store & let them see it & make a suggestion. The big box stores usually are useless since they cater to the masses & your situation is unique.

Good luck finding a good paint supply store as most are staffed with poor knowledge.

If you can do 'neat' work..get a popsicle stick & roll the edge of the chrome around the alum. & where it touches the bus sides, trim with a single edge razor blade

'get a popsicle stick & roll the edge of the chrome around the alum. & where it touches the bus sides'

confused on what you mean, can you explain more?

i am neat, pretty much a perfectionist, good at "doin", once i know how.

I believe he is talking about using the chrome tape. I have heard that it is also available in 3" width also, but I have never seen it. It is generally used by Air Conditioning installers to seal their A/C ducts with.

The alum tape I have used has really good adhesive on it & is very difficult to change your mind once it sticks. I don't remember the name brand, It came from the HVAC store. (It is like heavy duty alum foil)

For complete removal use Aircraft Remover, available most places from NAPA to HD to any other paint supplier.

Took about 4 gallons from the windows down on my coach, 40 Ft. Nasty stuff, but easy to apply, works fast and comes off easily. Mine is a '64 Crown so the paint was quite old.

Good product, but use good rubber gloves, plastic scrapers then pressure wash it off, if possible....next best, use a lot of water and a good brush.

I did it in sections, probably 4 x 5 or so.... use plenty of material....you'll learn as you go.

Other option if you want to remove the paint is to try this:
http://www.m-tc.com/efs2500_home.htm
$15. gets you a sample kit and you can try it in an inconspicuous place.
I tried it on one of my sign boards and it took the paint off easily...
