We are going to CANADA for a bus rally. I would like to know the proper way to fly our flag. Do I fly U.S.A. on top or CANADA on top .We only have one flag pole. Or can I fly just OLD GLORY ? What about size? My AMERICAN flag is a 4x6ft. can I fly a 3x5ft. CANADA flag with ours? THANK YOU FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE, CLAUDIENE |

Here's some info for you, Claudiene: http://www.canadianheritage.gc.ca/progs/cpsc-ccsp/etiquette/2_e.cfm Look for the section "With flags of other sovereign nations" HTH, Brian Brown |

Ah-hmm.. "With Other National Flags: When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace. " In Canada, the Canadian flag would be to the left of the American flag, on a separate pole. In America, the American flag would be to the left of the Canadian flag on a separate pole. The use of flag etiquette is always a good thing when you're abroad. (or even when you're a guy) |

In my opininion, to show class, only fly the Canadian flag while in Canada. They know where you are from! Ed Retired Navy expert in display of the flag of the United States (there is no such thing an an "American Flag"). |

It seems odd to fly someone else’s flag, especially if you do not fly your own. I fly the flag to show allegiance, pride, and patriotism. I bet the Canadians fly their flag at their embassies in the USA. Jack |

Canadians proudly fly their own flag in many of the parks I've been in. One on the south end of Sebring Florida is almost exclusively Canadian rigs, and they have multiple Canadian flags flying near the entrance on U.S. 27. ...JJ |

By all means Fly The Stars and Stripes. If you wish to also fly the Canadian flag they must be on separate standards and at same height. Rod P.S. Do not fly flag after sundown un less light is shining on it. |

I'd have to say, fly YOUR flag, and no one elses. I can't say it's official or anything, but the flag you fly is signifying who you are. I have a big American flag flying on my house. Sadly enough, my house is the only one in the community flying a flag at all. Well, let me qualify that. Someone stuck little plastic flags in ALL the yards for the 4th of July. Each one had a little add taped to the stick. You'd think someone could try to be patriotic without trying to make a buck. I'm so glad I'm moving. |
