I have a problem, looking for a solution!!!Saturday afternoon, stopped for a lite, The 8v71 in my 81 MCI 9 come up with a slight vibration. Everything looked good at the time I had just got onto the onramp off of US 41 onto the I-70 eastbound onramp looked out my side view and saw a white fog coming out of the exhaust.I pulled over to the shoulder, my temp was on the money and my oil pressure was good. Walked back to the engine opened the door nothing seemed out of place until I reved the motor, opps, I was splattered by carbon blacken fuel coming out of every orfice in the exaust. I called my road service provider, who afer 2 hours finnaly got back to me that I was on my own, perhaps I should call the sheriff. I did, still after another 2 hours nobody available. I already had a transient ask if I needed help ( ya, to see if I was in the coach ) Befor dark I started the bus, built air pressure and turned it around on the ramp and limped into the Vigo county fairgrounds a couple blocks south. Does anyone know what the problem could be and who could help with the problem. taffycandymaker |

Hi Mike, Take a look at the Google Earth map below. The red circle is where you are at the fairgrounds and Turner Coaches has the green circle around it. Probably within "limping" distance if you can get the bus rolling again. Turner Coaches is at 2135 East Margaret Avenue, phone 812.232.5252 or 800.873.5252 but may only be opened through the week. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the grinding sound accompanied by the smoke isn't the engine main bearing. Good luck. Ian www.busnut.com

Mike, Do you have basic tools with you? If so, I would individually take off the airbox inspection covers on the side where you have the exhaust fuel gunk coming out> The airbox covers are located just below the exhaust manifold on each sode of the block. They require a 1/2" wrench or socket to remove and are sealed with O rings, so you will not mess up agasket to have a look. Take them off, one at a time, take a flashlight and look into the cylinder ports and "see what you see". With similar symproms, my 8V71 had dropped a liner 2" into the block and tore off rings, etc. Motor ran, etc.....but was pumping goo as yours is. When I removed the airbox covers I found the problem in just a minute. I hope that is not what you have, but at least you'd know. I can scan and send the page from the DD service manual if you need it or any other service info- my phone #is 770-489-0710 call me if I can help- Chuck Lott |

I received a nice email from Mike (the originator of this thread,) and he is back on the road after having a faulty injector replaced. |
