I know this has been covered. but my computer won't do a search on this board anymore.
I have MCI 5C
Whats the differance between these engines? Is HP same? I just bought a 692 green with 9B90 injectors. Tag states 318 HP.Is it worth increasing to 350 HP?
Now I find a silver 692.
Also will my MT644 trans handle these engines?
Thanks,
C Ray

The turbo #, A/R, and the injectors determine the HP and torque. The engine could have been rebuilt and painted any color. (Have you seen the purple engines?)

The 9B90 calibration is 85-91 as compared to the 9g90 that is 88-94. The 9g90 will bring the engine up to 350hp.
If you look at my other post you see the mighty M15 injector…calibration 109-117 and 435HP.

The MT644 was rated at 300HP but I do not remember if that was at 3000rpm. The MT644 seemed to be used with smaller engines like a 6V-71. It may have problems if you go to 350HP on a 6v-92 where you will be over 1000 ft-lb of torque. Allison HT740 and 754 seem to be preferred with the larger engines.

Maybe someone else can remember the torque rating of the MT644.

Consider one other thing. The year the 6v-92 was built with the serial # will tell you more than the color. There were several changes made as the production was on going. For example, the height of the port at the bottom of the cylinder was shortened. The blower got a bypass in order to take advantage of the turbo pressure. The seals on the wet cylinders were improved more than once and the piston design was slightly changed. There were different cams that also were created in the final production years. Rack delays were replaced with fuel modulators. Turbo chargers were changed. So a 692 is not just a 692.

Good luck sorting thru this sea of forgotten info.

Ray I did a search and found Geoff's post on this subject:
DD began production of the Silver engines in 1981. Any serial number after these numbers would be a Silver Engine:
6V92-F83425
8V92-F73594
Hope this helps.
