My MC8 has the old (original) "power assist" steering box, would anyone know the MCI part # of the MC9 box that is used to upgrade to an integral power assist

After owning coaches with both types of systems: a 1974 MC8 with power-assist and a GMC 4106 and a 4108 with integral.. and spending a fair bit of time in and around them (and underneeth them) I would say that there's a LOT more than a steering box involved in upgrading the MCI system to integral. A new steering pump, hydraulic lines, etc. Maybe an MCI owner with integral could chime in.

I can see why you want to upgrade, though. The MC8 I owned briefly had horrible wandering tendancies and a scary amount of dead-center slop.

Seach for "integral" here on BNO.

I suggest contacting MCI...they should be able to offer you the info you need,

My 75 MC-8 came from the factory with Integral, but I couldn't tell you a part #

Fred Hobe on his website has a good discription & pictures of a mci-8 and the new gear box. The model # of a truck gear box that Fred used is what I had purchased for my mci-8. It was from a Mack truck model"R". Ray

Ray -

Send Chuck Lott a note. He just got through changing out
his MC8 box to an integral one. He followed Hobe's instructions,
as far as I know...

(way too much for me!)

Thanks to everyone who responded....on line and e-mail. I purchased a rebuit MCI box part # 11G-1-1. It is used on late 9s and early 102s. I will have to do some welding etc. and purchase a pitman arm
