Anyone know of someone who does this, or want to take on a diesel header project for a Series 50 (not much room). It goes from the head to the turbocharger mounted behind the engine. I already have 3/4" flanges cut but the tubing (stainless??) has to be welded into a collector to the turbo. Thanx, Rdub |

If you are in, or near a large town, try a welding school, you will have to supply all pipe, good luck trying to find it ,and the flanges, not trying to rain on your parade, |

Rdub, First do you have the "best" intake manifold? There was a S-60 installation seen at Bus'nUSA that had an inlet that extended upward from the mid-point of the manifold. DD does make a manifold with an "end" inlet that would have greatly shortened and simplified the installation. I'm guessing that they have the same setup for the S-50, as well. Don't underestimate the convenience of hunting down this manifold. Second, Will there be any cross-sectional changes, like 3" tube to 2-1/2", or elbows? The assembly, as a whole, should be baby smooth with no kinks in the transitions. Will you be providing all the pieces or will the shop that welds the tubing be expected to fabricate part or all and/or trim to fit? Finally, can you make up a plywood jig from the turbo-outlet to wherever the tube couples with the intake inlet? The idea is to support it in a way (without the necessity for tack welding [bad for stainless]) so that whoever welds it up is presented with the same situation as if he had the engine there with him. If all else fails and no one wishes to tackle it near you, cover the to-from shipping to me and I'll weld it up on my GTAW (TIG) for the price of materials. |

Rdub, Upon review, I got it backwards. I thought you meant from the Turbo to the intake. I apologize! Same general approach, however. |

Thanx for all your input...I did contact MESA for the estimate. Only "$2000-5000, or more". I'm thinking this will be just like everything else on my bus, " I'm cheap, therefore I do" (it myself). By the way, the power steering on my Silversides is awesome!!! Rdub |

Rdub The piece and fixture setup described above will work for you as well as me on building an exhaust as well as an intake, The offer to weld it for you is still open! Marc Bourget |
