My 85 year old neighbor told me the other day that to revive an old battery, put an asprin tablet in each cell! I've never heard of that, have any of you? If it works, how does it work?

I heard about that at least 50 years ago. I never saw it tried and I never tried it. Probably an urban myth.

Here you go fellas I found this on the Readers Digest site:

If you get behind the wheel only to discover that your car's battery has given up the ghost -- and there's no one around to give you a jump -- you may be able to get your vehicle started by dropping two aspirin tablets into the battery itself. The aspirin's acetylsalicylic acid will combine with the battery's sulfuric acid to produce one last charge. Just be sure to drive to your nearest service station.

What type of automotive battery charger do I need to recharge 2 8D batteries to 1400 CCA. I purchased these reconditioned batteries about 5 months ago, someone left the lights on in the bus and drained the them. Do I need to just buy two new batteries and forget about a charger?

A friend talked me into replacing my 8Ds with group 31s.
It was a good choice, and I'm glad I did it. The damned
8Ds were too heavy, and never seemed to take a near
total discharge well.

That aside... I bought a charger at Walmart for around $80,
that did a nice job of recharging the single 12v batteries in
the 24v configuration. It's a pain having to charge one at a
time, but it's always best to charge each battery individually,
when using them in a 24v config. The 24v chargers (or the
24v alternator) won't balance an unbalanced battery bank;
The 24v charger will stop charging when it sees sufficient
voltage. One battery can be left insufficiently charged....

(Take two aspirin and call me in the morning?)
(I got a charge out of that one)

Oh well.

Oh yeah... and one more thing... If you do use that 85 year
old's idea, don't use anything stronger than an aspirin.

Anything stronger and it won't be able to operate heavy machinery!
