I got an Email supposedly from Sojourner. Subject line was only "Re:" with no text and two files. I'm sure Sojourner did not send it. It had a Virus and started sending out Emails with the Virus. I Just installed Norton Antivirus and quarantined the files with the virus.

It was not very smart of me to open the file. If someone sends a file, there is usually a text message with it to explain why the file was sent. Just too curious that time.

Steve, I just got two emails from you with subject RE:. Like a fool I went ahead and tried to open it anyhow. Fortunately Norton caught it and I then deleted both and then deleted them from the deleted bin. I will never try and open anything else with just a RE subject.

That is the bad.trans virus, and I finally got it off my system last week. Be careful, since Norton will report it gone and it isn't. You may have to go to Norton's website and dowwnload a special fix to get rid of it. If you haven't updated your A/V software in the last 6 weeks, then you still have it,and it will stay hidden for a week and reappear. Go to Norton's Site and check it out under "downloads". Cheers...JJ P.S. I got it from a site that was posted on the BNO BBS about 10 days ago. I don't remember the name of the site , but it was one of those 'neat'Yuppie places (it's in Ohio) that had a lot of fancy, expensive items.

It is a worm. That means your passwords are not secure since a worm sends information from your computer back to the originator of the worm.

I am changing all my pass words right now.

I just bought and installed Norton Anti-Virus today and it downloaded the latest updates before it went to work. I will watch for a reappearance anyway.

Steve, I did have the virus called 'W32/Badtrans-B'.

It got into my address data file and re-sends a file to everyone, that I sent two week ago.

I receive many, many report of reject mails. I was wondering why it was sent again this time without my permission.

So now I have a PC-cillin 2000 installed.

It will every Friday update my PC-cillin’s software for newest virus protection.

Probably should update every day????

Who know what next!!!!!!

I was told by a computer repairman, that this virus is active on e-mail message……not just from attachment.

This new method been going on for 3 months or so.

I never open any mail with unknown attachment.

However, this was my own message, only two weeks later with a “Re” before my subject title.

Another words some evil doer added “W32/Badtrans-B” file to it.

As Richard said, do not open with a “Re” in front of subject or no subject.

By the way, I just talk to Steve at Busin 2002 Saturday evening. Neither Steve nor I knew we were going have computer virus within the next day or so.

Sorry to all the folks who gotten the virus. I think I will try to update at least twice a week or more often then that.

May you all have a Happy New Year.

Guys,
these "included in the email" type virii which don't need attachments to infect can be rejected by your computer by going to the Microsoft Update site. There you will find an upgrade for Internet Explorer 5 and 5.5 which will close this loophole in your email program. Another way is to upgrade your browser to the latest Internet Explorer 6, which will upgrade your email package too and stop these annoying virii getting a hold on your machine and address book. The reason they gain access to your machine is that they pretend to be friendly, such as a jpg picture which you program accepts as safe and allows it to open automatically. Sometimes just turning off your preview panel will stop the infection, but why take that route when there is a "patch" available.
A trip to this site will produce a bunch of upgrades and patches neccessary for a more secure and efficient system.
Peter.
