From a recent episode of "Jeopardy"....

"And the categories are: World Events; American Tragedy; Wars of the 21st Century; and Buses. Ann?"

"I'll take 'Buses' for 400."

"The answer is, It is because of this that the Salvage Yard on Wheels became fully operational."

"What is a 'dachshund'?"

"Yes, small German dog. Next category."

The last time I looked, oil was pouring out of the back of the bus. I've applied for Super Fund Cleanup status. Although I have not become adjusted to spending every day of my life at Williams Detroit Diesel, I did have to make another trip to their parts counter; this time to return the spin-on oil filter adapter which didn't fit. That's when I found out it cost $102. Previously, I didn't care what it cost. Now, I wanted my money back.

You know how people are. Some people love their dogs. No, I mean, they LOVE their dogs! They come home to their dogs, they play with their dogs, they even take pictures of their dogs. These dogs aren't dogs, they are family.

One day, out of the blue, my RV guy shows up at the photo lab, behind which the bus has been parked for the past year, and says that while he is here, he will install the spin-on oil filter adapter. So what was the occasion? An 8x10. He needed an 8x10 of his cute, precious dachshund, a little fellow so adorable it was worth working on the SYOW to get it. Adorable! What does that tell you about man and his dog? Based on my experience, the bonds don't get tighter than that.

Several minutes later, the engine was roaring along, strong and powerful, and sending out that unmistakable cadence of a real bus running. You know the sound. A real bus filling the neighborhood with that official, certifiable, if not patented, sound of a real bus.
A good case could be made that the only legitimate reason for owning one of these old buses is for that real bus sound you only get with a two-cycle Detroit Diesel 6-71 engine.

The RV guy was standing behind the bus, lid up, defiantly daring it to cover him with even one single drop of oil. The original oil filter housing, still in place, sat there doing its work on the inside, dry and oil free on the outside. "OK, Mr. Smarty-pants," I begged to know, "what did you do to it?" He pulled a big box-end wrench out of his back pocket. "I just cranked it down until it stopped leaking."

I handed him his 8x10. "Your dog is so cute!" I told him. "I know," he replied. "This is a great dog!"

Yeah, it's a great dog all right—it got my bus fixed!

Happy busin'!

A Dachshund? If You really love dogs you should try sleeping with 6+ (it's a long story:{) Siberian Huskys in a waterbed:)

Yea, and I met a guy in the parking lot at WalMart the other day with a real live Mountain Lion as a pet. Its head was sticking out the sliding rear window of his pick up and it looked awsome. 2-1/2 years old and BIG. Says it is litter trained and sleeps at the foot of his bed.
