Hi Michael!

I am one of the few with an 870 on here....I love the thing!! Unfortunately, she is sitting at home buried under the snow of Detroit right now.

Best wishes for the Holidays,

Bob and Cath Sheaves

My husband owns a 1964 Flexible Bus that has been
converted to a motor home. We have enjoyed it very much. We are getting desperate in our search to locate a vibration damper pulley assembly for a Cummins 265 engine with a 7 bolt on pattern.....Cummins # BM 92421. If anybody can help us out in locating this part, please e-mail us at RCVanek@alltel.net. We are not eager to have to invest in a new engine, if we can find this part. Any help anybody can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Our bus is 40' and we have enjoyed taking it on trips to Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Kentucky just to name a few places, along with several Bluegrass Music Festivals here in Ohio. We live about 60 miles east of Cleveland. We, too, would like to hear from other people's experiences with Flexible conversions and if any of you attend the gathering they have in Loudonville, OH

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas.

Hi

Still driving The 77 flx 35096 that I use as my "car". The conversion is modest, more like a day coach. But the running gear has greaty improved from when first bought.

The old 6v71 and underdrive v730 was replaced with a 8v71 (rebuilt by Queen city Metro and bought at auction for 500$ because they no longer had a 8v71 bus.) and a used v730 od that was thrown in on the deal.
Then a decent 4 1/8 rear end gear was bought
for 150$ and installed .

This is a 30 ft "newlook " Flex with 8v71 , v730,
4 1/8 gears ./..You know its FFFun to drive.

because of the 22.5 lp tires , the gov. hits right at 73MPH. And stays there.

I know it will happen one day but after at least 3000 miles have not been passed by anything BIG yet. (one open road)

Had a 300 cat (Motor home) try tthrough the state of Ohio. It was close but....

And from red light to red light them city busses are sure stunned..

I also have a company car to use but this bus is my main personal wheels (ins is cheaper then van or pickup)...

No its not perfect ,an air bag is leaking (rust)
The used v730 has this kind of rattle intill put in gear. but works good....?

BTW The chang from the 6 to 8 took 6 weeks of work. but now can say it was worth it (not then)
The 8v71 really sounds sweet, gray smoke gone, starts at 32 degrees no either. Still leaks small amount of oil...

Thanks Hap
Hope to pass you on the next hill.

I am also a Grumman 870 owner. I'm 900 hours into the project with a long way to go. I'm currently installing steel frame members where the windows used to be, so I can install siding.

Hey,
I'm about to buy a 1980 w/ 6v71. I'm a comedian and looking to take this on the road. You know, act famous before I actually get famous! My wife told me to get a tour before a tour bus! I told her, "if I build it, they will come!"
I need to gut it and completely redo. Advice on lay out, electrical, generator?, and such appreciated. Would love to have fellow bussers stop in and see my show when I'm in your area!blridings@hotmail.com

I have a '82 870, converted 1995-1997. Have racked up nearly 60k mi. since. No major repairs yet. Put 9f90 injectors in, changed the rear end to 4.10, has a 6-92ta, 730 allison, cruises nice at 65 when towing, and tops at around 76. Sure wish they had an angle 740; need another gear around 50 mph. Makes for a fairly easy conversion with the flat floor and flat roof. Good room to build storage underfloor, although limited in height. Front door is tricky to fab w/ the 2 bends to match side contour. Rear door well makes ready made genset space.

Found a 1972 Flxible small bus aka Flxette or

Vehicle measures approx 21 feet long.

Appreciate more info on this vehicle. Please email Ricco at ricco@intrepid.net.

Just found this site. Thanks Fast Fred. My bus is a 29' Flx. Clipper, 1948. To date changes include a BF6L913 Deutz engine, a Clark 5 speed, a 3.71 Rockwell differential, new engine cradle, new Northern lights generator, Hurricane H2O heating system. Still have a long way to go.
Does anybody have shackle pins and bushings for this thing?

Hi out there I am located in interior alaska. I'm the owner of a converted 1978 870 grumman. Every thing about it works great. I'm especially interested in the heating system [three of them] I am in need of the electrical diagrams for this bus. Can anyone help me out with this? Or tell me where I can get one.

Hi Sid,

Here is a link:

http://www.coachinfo.com/Manuals/Flxible/Grumman.html

These guys can sell you a manual. I got mine (New Look) from them and it was a photocopy. Mostly usable but the schematics are a bit hard to read and the pictures are mostly black. Line drawings and text are fine though. Ain't cheap either. . . but it is better than nothing.

Hi Y'all,
My '83 Flex-Grum failed to start the last time I tried it and the FIRE indicator came on. No fire, but it did rattle teasingly and then died. No rattling or starting smoke as before. FIRE light not scaring me either. I can't find or see anything to reset the fuel. I think there is a switch or valve somewhere. Can anybody point me in the right direction?? Thanks, JOHN

How long had it sat? Do you think maybe it just lost its prime? I know nothing about the fire indicator.

870 won't start. It has been started and driven a few miles after warmup every month.... until this time..lol. Oil pressure comes up past 50 psi on starting attempt. Tank was filled before the last 120 mile trip.

How cold is it where you are? If it is cranking and you have fuel, I would think it would smoke some. Can be assured you are getting fuel?
