Do you mean 238? If so yes that was a common term for a 6v-71. Not many of them were actually set at that HP in buses. Even the 318 HP for the 8v-71N was a fire truck rating that was not that high when used in trucks? Only way to know for sure what you got is to check the injectors and timing and look in “Da Book”. The only problem you will have if it is a 6v-71 is low power when climbing hills. No turbo for high altitude. Good side is you won’t use as much diesel as a big 8v-92. |

doubt that any eagle would have a 671. 283 hp is about stock hp for an 8v71 which also have been stock engine for that year eagle |

I think you are talking to someone that does not know anything about buses, the Eagle came with a 8v71 /318 ------ 671 was NEVER installed, would be VERY underpowered. |

Check the electrical compartment under the driver's window.. If the circuit breakers don't all fall out at once, you may be on a roll... Bring an awl...Check inside the wheel wells, look through any open port to check for frame rust by poking the awl into the area. If it goes through anything metal... try not to trip while you run the hell out of there. Don't run with the awl; you'll poke your eye out. After all that..... if you really love an Eagle (I did), Take the bus to a bus garage before making any offer for it. Ooops... Let me re-type that more clearly... Take the bus to a bus garage before making any offer for it. Heed their warnings and opinion. This isn't a used car that there's plenty of buyers for.... this is a used bus - the easier it is for you to buy; the tougher it'll be for you to sell.
