Hello- I have a 47' IC-41 Brill Coach. I'm a new member and looking for present (and past) owners of these buses for tips, info and possibly a parts source. Any Brill owners here? I was directed to this forum from another board (also a great bunch of people!. I recognoze a few names here, from over there. I read here about a Brill possibly being available down south (Texas?) and wondered if it was still around? Any help, or a point in the right direction would be most helpful. Cheers.. |

I "THINK" they were gasoline...not real sure.. think JIM was saying he knew where it was, it will be hard to find parts for, guess the best advice to a newbie, would be to get something late model,I know everybody wants to be different, but, it's not that much fun being REAL different ---stranded somewhere |

Hello Bob- Thank you for the advice and your concern (really). I do think its funny that the first reply I get, is to get rid of it and look for something newer. I’m a newbie to this board--not to old vehicles (I’m one myself!) and I’ve learned not to tell the parts stores what I have until they give me the part! Yes, it's gas (Hall-Scott, 779cu.) and runs fine. The engine I’m not too worried about. I need to go over a few other things before I’m ready to drive it safely. I not completely in the dark here, as I have a great friend with a Brill and he has been able to answer 99% of my questions, but his is a little different than mine and had been already been converted to an R/V when he got it. And, I don't plan on making any long trips (within 200 miles) with it and won't be going over 55-60 mph at best-- mostly for local family outings and holiday at the beach. It will have antique/historic tags. I have contact with a shipping co. that hauls molding machines and other large items for the "big three" that would help me out in a pinch in case of a breakdown. I want to keep it mostly original with the exception of some interior additions (the seats were already removed). So far, I've found most of the problems are just from sitting for a time. There is a minimum of rust- only inside above the front wheel-wells--an easy fix. The frame and wood flooring are very solid. I need some trim items and glass for the outside though- The body itself in very good condition with just a couple of minor dents. It needs painting badly. I have traced its history from the day it left the Pa. factory. Being "real" different doesn't concern me, as I love all old vehicles and don't get onto them for other's evaluation or to be different. I like the challenge and love the look of this coach (as does my family) and have "refurbished" other vehicles. Also, I own a later model bus. It's an 80's Blue-Bird which I plan to sell to help refinance to repairs/upgrades for my Brill. I don’t care too much for it and have only driven it home and around the area, and used it for my girls’ birthday parties sitting in the drive. I wanted a Crown until I came across the Brill. I hope Jim sees this post- Thanks again, Bob! Cheers.. |

Bob,If you are looking for more information on Brills, you might call Wayne Crawford at Crawford Coach in Mifflin, PA. His dad knew them well and I know that Wayne spent some time on them too. They may have one or two. Some folks made the conversion to a detroit 6-71 pancake engine with much success. By any chance is the "Luray" for Luray, VA? Michael |

Hello Michael- Thanks for the reply! Yes, I've been in touch with them (Crawford) and will be stopping by there soon. I've heard of swaps with Detroits and Cummins', but if I have to go that route (which I hope not!), it will be with Benz power. I see you know her name! Yes, that's correct. The last place she was used in service was to take people from Front Royal Va. to the caverns in Luray Va; hence her name- She was parked not to far from there and the previous owners' brother was the driver for that route. I did contact the Pres. of the (only) Brill chapter (in Ca.), but he said he didn't have any old contacts from former members(!?) It's funny: People shy away from this like the plague, but in reality it's just another box on wheels like everyone elses. It all what you make of it- I've been pouring over the old posts and facinated with all the info available- Oh, I'll have questions- when the time comes, but for now I'm content on just getting her ready for a state inspection. There's still a bit to do yet before-hand for that goal. I really love it! So, where's Jim? Cheers.. Ps- I'm known as phil, not Bob--but you can call me Brillo! |

Hello- Thanks Bob! I'd got in touch with him, but it was too late--it's been sold. I do appreciate the help, though- Hey there, Michael: Yes we are very close (considering-). We live about 20 miles north of Winchester. Where are you and what type of coach do you have? "Richard's Bus Service" was one of the repair shops used, and "Quick's Bus Service"- along with "Gochenour's Coach" were past owners. All were out your way. One of the first owners (besides Trailways)was "Shrocks" and the owner (still the same and still runs a coach service in Winchester), whom I contacted wants to come down from Pa (the main office), check the old girl out again, and (hopefully) take her out for a memory. On mine- I'm trying to ready her for a state inspection, but believe I might need some time yet to gather a couple of parts. I've got the hand-brake working, but the set button on top of the lever is missing/broken. If I can't find one, I'll come up with something- I'm trying to unstick the clutch slave at the moment--if this fails, I may have to find a replacement. Then it's on to the cooling sys. and air-brakes- I just keep plugging along finding probs' here and there and dealing with it- Cheers.. |

Phil,I saw that ebay has some 6-71's and a cummins pancake engine listed. Go to the ebay site on BNO. We are seven miles west of New Market about 70 miles from you. Michael |

Hey again, Mike- I thought we were somewhat close- My Brill is shaping up-with just 3 items missing for a completed body, which will be ready to prep for paint. The Hall-Scott engine runs fine so I won't be changing that until something serious goes wrong. Cheers.. |
